About

See you in Spring 2018! Cooking real food, we slow down and live livelier. We support our friend's farms & work to be a part of our island community.

Story

In the heart of the historic district.
Seasonal, honest cooking reminiscent of the rustic cuisine we love.
Our mission is to mentor and collaborate with our cooks & team to find the balance in our cooking between authenticity and spontaneity.
Influenced by the cuisines of Wine Country from California to Spain, France, Italy and beyond. Our menus are a reflection of the time we share at stove and table at home. Each dish holds so many stories- the hands that nurtured then harvested, the origin of a treasured recipe – tested over and over, with the simple hope it could convey our love of the craft of cooking. A herb, a vegetable, fish & shellfish, pasture raised animals, we do our best to source our ingredients. Our seasonal menus change based on harvest and availability.

The Boarding House is a gathering spot in the center of the historic district ideal for weekend brunch, a leisurely lunch with a friend, family dinner al fresco on the patio or a late-night bourbon at our bar. Whether it's a bowl of house made cavtelli or grilled lobster spaghetti: we view our cooking as a recipe collection of love letters from our travels that arrives at your table, expressed with each dish. We scour markets and farms from one season to the next.
Wine & Spirits are a lifelong study and shared passion for our team.

Boarding house has top notch service (ask for Hannah Johnson- she's fantastic). The food was spot on, fresh, locally sourced and prepared well. Can't wait to come back for brunch!

Food we delicious and the Bartender was great. We just stayed for a little while during our drink and app crawl that my wife and I do, but we were very entertained by chatting with the friendly staff.

We had excellent service and an incredible meal. Our scallops were cooked to perfection - not overdone. The tomato and strawberry salad was fresh and tasty. The avocado stuffed avocado had a nice savory soy flavor but without being too heavy. And the fries had a nice garlic aioli with a tanginess. For dessert we had the olive oil bundt cake which was also delicious. One of the best overall meals I've had in a while.

Let me start by saying that I can't attest to the quality of the food here because we didn't actually end up eating anything. We arrived at 930 on a Tuesday night and asked to be seated for drinks and dessert. Many members of our party return to the island every summer and raved about the dessert menu Boarding House offered. However when we asked to be seated we were told to wait while the hostess spoke to her manager because she wasn't sure she could accommodate us. Ok? But we waited. She returned to tell us we had to "wait to see if anyone came to sit for dinner." We found this incredibly snobby and pretentious. It was a rainy evening and there was clearly no on on the streets looking for dinner at that time. To make matters worse, we could see that three of their four patio tables were open and even conveyed that we would be more than happy to sit outside. They were clearly still serving food outside as there was already a table seated waiting for food. Since when does a restaurant turn away paying customers for the prospect of other customers? The entire experience left us feeling undervalued and made it certain that none of us will ever return to this pretentious establishment again. That is no way to run a business and Boarding House should be ashamed of the poor customer service we received. It doesn't matter how good the food is when service is downright despicable. Luckily we were able to walk over to juice bar and get delicious desserts there, where they had no problem serving us.
