Agreed about the library staff. I've been going to this library since childhood, over 25 years. I only visit infrequently now when I'm in the area, and the staff do not know how to make people feel welcome. I also happen to be a person of color, but not sure if it's that or if they are straight rude. For example, I recently had to sign for a DVD, and the woman recoiled and snapped that I should use a pen laying on the desk instead of the one in her hand when I reached for it. They also snap at you to leave library items on the desk instead of in the return slot so their lazy butts don't have to bend down. Why? I get making your job easier, but your job is mainly customer service, and you provide little of it. I've also seen the same folks there for 10+ years. How do they keep their jobs? Children's section could be organized better to find books of interest for young readers. So many stars because this is a suburban library where you can request anything you could possibly want and they have a lot of different media like blu-ray and graphic novels. Lots of new books all the time. Librarians on 2nd floor are usually helpful when you ask. I had an issue with their computer, and the younger of the two male librarians was very helpful and worked with me until it was sorted out. For friendlier staff, I like going to West Nyack.

The library is great - ofcourse plenty of books, movies - whatever you wish. My problem is with the general attitude of the staff. I think even when the library was planned, they planned it wrong in that everytime you go into the library you have to pass the desk staff who just sit there and stare at you, as if this is a airport security check post. I have been to many libraries where you don't feel like you are being started at because you look different. But Nanuet library is not one them. I felt many times that they are intolerant of people of origins other than pure caucasian. May be asians are OK as I see an Asian lady at the desk at tiimes. This ill-mannered staring is the worst in the children's area where sually a couple of women of low intellect sit at the desk and try to judge people by staring and following them with their dirty eyes especially if they look "different". I felt many times like going and asking them why they are staring at me. (No. I am not Paranoid). I wanted to tell them that I will appreciate it if they acknowledge that my children and I are regular people who love books but just happen to have noncaucasian origin. There is nothing to stare at. Actually these women, with their disgusted looks make a tablauex of people living off tax payers without doing much work. Because of the constant sitting, staring and slow interaction these women themselves keep getting very unhealthy (if I can make the assesment from their F_A_T_A-s-t-i-c looks). I also think Nanuet is spending too much money on this librray police who are paid to sit and stare at people. I hope the Nanuet community will have better sense and send some of them home . Let me finish by a true incident ( I swear) . When I reached the check out desk one day, I happened to hear these words, " they don't have anything in their place, that why they all come here". The person who is commenting is the older check out clerk - her face all red with some kind of indignation. I felt the sting wondering whom they are talking about. The I realized, there was a Hasidic Jewish family possibily from Monsey, NY and possibily that family was the focus of discussion and not me. However, I could only wonder if there is any empathy or professionalism left in this library staff who cannot tolerate anything other than their own kind. O, I forgot - this library has a method of placing fines on you even on the material you renewed over the internet and sometimes on the material returning. Make sure that you keep the reciepts. Don't forget to stare back at those dirts.
