Bryan and Claire, the people behind Natural Burial of New Mexico/La Puerta the name of the cemetery itself are the nicest, most genuinely caring people. I unexpectedly lost my infant son. After calling family, they were my next call. I had absolutely no idea what to expect we were still waiting on the medical examiner, who took hours to get to my rural home. All I knew is that I did not want my son cremated or embalmed. As I want when I pass, I wanted my son to become one with earth as naturally as possible. I initially spoke with Bryan and he held so much space for my husband and me, as he walked us through all the steps we would be going through between the medical examiner arriving and actually getting to bury our son. He checked in with us throughout the process. Despite our willingness to pay, Bryan and Claire did a ton of extra things for us for free and arranged discounts and other services donated to us due to the fact that we lost a child. They also worked with us on a payment plan to purchase additional plots, so our family can be buried next to our son. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare to lose a child but we couldn’t have been anymore supported by Bryan and Claire. Bryan is also a great designer and was incredibly patient and supportive while we decided on a headstone for my son. Bryan designed and engraved a beautiful, natural flagstone headstone for our son. Bryan and Claire also help facilitate community amongst us who have loved ones buried at La Puerta. It’s really sweet to feel the support of an entire community. On top of all of their generous support, the cemetery itself is an incredibly beautiful, serene place. I’ve never felt good, pure energy at cemeteries, until visiting La Puerta. I’m so grateful to have such a peaceful place to lie my baby to rest, as well as such a peaceful place I’ll be buried at too, when I leave this plane. La Puerta is one majestic place. Words cannot express how grateful I am for Bryan, Claire, and Natural Burial of New Mexico/La Puerta. It all means so much to my family and me.
My mother's burial at La Puerta was a lovely experience. The views are amazing and the trains just add to the ambiance. Children who loved her helped pull the cart and bury her. This will be my choice when the time comes. Donal even delivered the bamboo casket to our home which we assembled. If you are interested in a reverent and more personal way this is it. On a side note Donal and Linda made sure we got what we needed as far as paperwork was concerned even with a hospice that was less than cooperative. They were a blessing and to work with every step of the way.
My dear father passed from Covid-19. I had heard that there was a Jewish section in La Puerta. I called and spoke with Donal and he was as helpful as anyone in grief could ask for. He gave me a great deal of information and helped me make informed decisions. At the end, my family decided to have dad buried in Israel, so I didn’t get to have the funeral here, but I would recommend La Puerta very highly for their sensitivity to the planet, and to us, trying to Help us bury our dead with dignity.
The folks at La Puerta were very kind and helpful, and we truly appreciate their ecological approach.
I was very impressed by the kindness, professionalism and courtesy that Donald Key extended to my family.
Very beautiful views, professional grounds keeper, it puts death and burial back to what matters most.
