Excellent help and guidance is provided on the phone and if you go to Smithfield, in person. The staff is compassionate and knowledgeable. It cannot be an easy job to navigate people who may be angry and frustrated, through a very complicated health care system. We were quite confused and frustrated with an unannounced change in health care plans, but the staff really listened and helped get it straightened out. 4 instead of 5 because NHP could improve with announcing clearly any insurance changes ahead of time, with options available to recipients.

People like the woman below need education on healthcare. NHP will not cover blood work (labs) that are not related to a annual physical, and btw not even bcbsri would cover labs that aren't related to a physical. If you have deductibles that are high..copays...co insurance.. which is for the most part all private plans unless u get state funded plans...then yes you will be told to pay adjusted rates for all your services. Now if u picked a plan that isn't suitable for your health needs..then that's also poor decision making on the customer. NHP is a closed network insurance meaning u can't use it with providers not in their network like Boston or whichever provider who likes money versus giving care..as that essentially is the reason why providers choose to be with certain insurance companies..as well they like to filter the type and class of clients they see by the use of insurance providers. So woman below prenatal ultrasound is covered without i paying for as it is a preventive srvs..you had to Pay for yours cause more than likely you had a ultrasound down that Is not considered preventive meaning it's a costly kind of ultrasound for your baby..and btw every insurance can readjust their claims at any time if the doctors did not bill correctly the first time they submitted the bill or if the insurance company had internal issues with processing a claim..you ultimately know that if u have a private plan u have to pay. Simple as that. So NHPRI is absolutely one of the best plans ..as I had blue cross and now have united healthcare and they weren't any better than NHP. And customer service is amazing..so stop all your complaining and educate yourself about healthcare and insurance plans before u buy them!

NHPRI is the absolutely worst of the worst of any company I have ever dealt with. There is a reason many providers no longer accept them. They charge outrageous premiums for terrible coverage. They don’t cover things like routine blood work or routine pregnancy ultrasounds. December 2016 they agreed to pay $215 of a $310 ultrasound bill I received. I paid my portion ($94 ) and that was that. Until today when I receive an additional bill for three same service I received over a year ago. Apparently they now will only play $124 of the promised $215 and I’m supposed to pay an ADDITIONAL $90 for A ROUTINE pregnancy ultrasound. I called and was told the initial amout they promised to the provider was wrong and I owe the rest. HOW DARE YOU NHP?! How dare you gouge your costumers for more money OVER A YEAR after a bill has been settled just because you had internal mistakes! It’s shameful and wrong and I know that I’m not the only one now receiving additonal bills (according to the representative I spoke to.) I cannot wait until March when my husbands company has open enrollment and we can switch to another company. We will be cutting and running as far away from NHP as soon as possible no matter how much more it costs us each month, and you should all do the same. Absolutely terrible customer service. Despicable, greedy “insurance provider.” STAY AWAY!

Been a member for over 3 years, very happy with this company, and never had even one negative issue whatsoever. Have heard many other members say the same. So far so good!
