Story

Shoppers can count on New River Valley Mall to provide a warm welcoming atmosphere and satisfying shopping experience. In addition to our excellent selection of shopping, dining and entertainment offerings, New River Valley Mall also hosts many free events for the community to enjoy including the Carilion Women's Expo, Direct Sales and Sportscard Shows, and our annual Fall Festival in the front parking lot attended by over 3,000 people from our community each year. A true centerpiece of the region, New River Valley Mall serves as an integral part of Montgomery County and offers an enjoyable place to spend time with family, friends and coworkers.

New River Valley Mall History

New River Valley Mall opened for business in 1988. In 2001, the shopping center underwent a minor renovation, which included new bathrooms, family restroom, conversion of the Food Court into small shops, and the addition of vestibules in the theater area entranceway. In 2006, New River Valley Mall began an extensive renovation, which included new tile, entranceways, soft seating areas, and updated lighting. In 2007, Regal Cinemas moved out of the center into a freestanding theater on the mall's parking lot near Dick's Sporting Goods. New River Community College opened in the theater's former location in August 2007 with over 900 students enrolled. New River valley mall also welcomed a new Food Court in November of 2007. New River Center, a 157,000 square foot Power Center located next to the mall is home to several of the nation's most popular Big Box retailers including Old Navy, Best Buy, Bed, Bath & Beyond and others. Panera Bread and Olive Garden were also built and opened beside New River Center in 2007.

Located minutes from I-81 in the region's retail hub and equidistant from nearby Blacksburg and Radford.

There are over 45,000 college students within a 15 minute drive, highlighted by Virginia Tech and Radford University.

We have the only movie theatre within 25 miles, fourteen screens with stadium seating for 2,500.

New River Community College enrollment has doubled since opening satellite campus in the mall; over 1500 students attend weekly.

The Regional bus system provides easy access from Virginia Tech Campus, Radford University and downtown Christiansburg. New River Valley Mall is the number one destination in the transit system.
