Story

The Newport Fire Department proudly serves and protects the lives and property of the citizens and visitors of Newport in a variety of ways.Residents of Newport enjoy a lower cost of living and doing business in part because of our ISO fire class rating of 3. Our department of 21 full-time and 18 volunteer firefighters provides coverage from three fire stations with four pumpers, one service truck, one 102' ladder truck, two ambulances, and one brush truck.

All stations are staffed 365 days a year by three shifts that work on a rotating basis. We provide protection for approximately 17 square miles within the city and an industrial area just outside the city. Some of the services that the Newport Fire Department provides are fire suppression, fire prevention education, fire and life safety inspections, rescue, pre-emergency incident planning, and emergency medical treatment and transport services with both advanced and basic life support.

We are proud that many of our members are active in a variety of events and activities that include youth sports, boy scouts, schools, churches, civic clubs, and our local Chamber of Commerce.

Mission

Our mission is to perform all of our duties with personnel safety first and foremost for our firefighters, knowing that the tasks of the NFD are inherently dangerous. We strive to provide for the safety and well-being of our citizens and visitors, to protect them from harm or property loss, to safeguard the trust and professional performance our community expects and entrusts by promoting fire prevention education, emergency medical services, rescue, fire suppression, code enforcement, planning and other hazard mitigation and response while acknowledging the efforts of our personnel who provide these services.
