Newtown Veterinary Specialists provides a broad range of high-level emergency and critical care for when your dog or cat becomes ill or injured and your primary care veterinarian is unavailable.

Story

At NVS, you and your pet will be treated with the utmost care, compassion, and respect. Our on-site team of experienced emergency veterinarians and dedicated technicians will keep you informed of your pet's condition every step of the way. In addition to emergency care, many of our patients are referred to us by their primary care veterinarians for advanced diagnostics, intensive care, or specialty procedures such as ultrasonography and emergency surgical intervention. We also offer advanced therapeutic techniques such as oxygen therapy, transfusion therapy, continuous EKG monitoring, and supportive care. Our primary goal is to provide optimal medical, surgical, and emergency care to our patients, while nurturing the bonds between pet owners, their pets, our practice, and referring veterinarians.

During my divorce my ex ran over my 10 month old German Shepherd. He took her to Newtown Vet Specialists where they took a deposit of $1600. and then told me it would cost around $7,000. to repair her complete fracture of her hind leg. They refused to put that balance on my husband’s credit card and said they don’t keep copies of the credit card numbers. At the time I could not afford the surgery. They agreed to put a cast on her and told me to pick her up. When I got there they said they would credit my husband’s card for a balance due back to him. So they totally lied and did still have his credit card number. Then they made up some story about how they didn’t really have his card number for charges but only for refunds. When they showed me the X-rays the bones were barely touching, they hadn’t even set the bones to line up as much as possible in the cast. That night my dog was in agony and the cast got too tight as her leg swelled up. I had to cut off the bandage around the cast and found two board certified surgeons the next day who would do the surgery for $3,000. The office manager then writes me a letter telling me that they are firing me as a client because I was angry that they lied to me and tried to leverage an additional $5400. from me. Did they really think I would ever go back there? Leveraging more than twice the cost of a procedure from people when they are at their most vulnerable is not putting animals first. Even accounting for them being open 24 hrs does not justify more than twice the cost of a procedure. Lying to my face with proof of the lie right in front of us was just unbelievable. I give them an F.

We had recently brought our 8 year old dog, who has no previous health conditions. After two days of diagnosis through this hospital we are informed that she needed a $5,000+ operation which consisted of a routine surgery to remove a small blockage leading to her small intestine. We were given very good odds (70-80% chance of full recovery). However, she passed away the night of the operation...They had no mercy on the bill whatsoever, which ended up costing over $6,000. THIS IS A VERY MONEY ORIENTED VETERINARY HOSPITAL.

Over priced and unhelpful. They do not care what the issue with your pet is they just want your money. They do not run the correct tests instead they do what is more monetarily beneficial to themselves.

The worst experience ever!!!!! No bedside manner whatsoever. Useless. Money hungry. Of no help whatsoever. Save your pets life - go elsewhere!!

stay away - read my yelp reviews - So here we are once again. Almost 3 years to the day, Max had to be put down today because of the hip replacement that was done by a MD that is no longer there. He was only 5 years old. The implant in his hip was dislodging from where it was inserted into his bone. We were told that we would live a long and healthy life. Max has been in pain. Max did not deserve an arrogant MD attempting to be like god. Please, Please, Please - do you homework before coming to this place. We love you Max
