Its too funny reading others reviews of hospitals here in Canada. With our free health care some expect hand on foot type treatment even while in emergency. Well NYG is no different than any other hospital in the city. Emergency is for life threatening emergencies and they rank people in the order of life threatening scale. A broken wrist is painful but it's not something for the emergency department. If you're not about to drop dead from your injuries, do not show up at the emergency department complaining about pain. For the person complaining that they had to wait 2-3 hours. HA!!! I beat you easy. I checked in on Wednesday evening into emergency because my gallbladder was leaking bile into my body. I was basically being eaten alive by my own body. Checked in Wednesday evening, was passed over by a whole kid's football team and their moms, then passed over by a senile senior who forgot to eat. They didn't see me until Friday morning where they assigned me a bed in the waiting room while they prepared a room for me... Another few hours of waiting for a total of 42 hours... I passed out several times my roommate told me and no one looked in on me while I was unconscious in the waiting room. As for the whole mini-football team and their moms... all the kids were in full gear with helmets and running around the hospital so they didn't need to be in emergency but the moms decided a laughing and running around kid took precedence over a man whose body was eating itself to death. All the kids were fine, only scraped knees and bruises but they had no head injuries because they were all wearing helmets. Me, years later after the operation, my stomach is scarred permanently and it hurts to eat anything, one kidney is down to half the size it was originally due to the bile burning/eating through that side of my body. But hey the kids in full helmet and gear are all fine and I'm scarred for life with lifetime daily pain. BEAT THAT YA WHINERS!!!

Awesome staff with excellent bedside manners! Checked in to the ED for some obstetric/GI concerns, was in and out of there within 4 hours after being assessed, receiving bloodwork, medications, ultrasound and ECG which is pretty impressive. I've also taken family here before, have always been treated with respect and never waited super long at all.

Rudest nurses ever. They are full of attitude the minute you walk in. I don’t understand why they would treat a new patient so poorly just because a completely different patient may have upset them earlier. I am not that person who upset you so don’t take it out on me! And while patients are waiting I hear these 2 nurses whispering about taking sick days to go see a concert. Seriously? That’s where our money goes! To a system that allows people to take sick days and get paid for them while they’re not even sick.

Great experience here. Doctors who have looked after me (Dr. David Smith, and team) helped me feel very comfortable and informed before my surgery. I felt I was in good hands all the way through my experience.

I just had my tonsils removed here, in the day surgery unit. As an adult, it is quite an unpleasant procedure. I've had a few surgeries before, all in different hospitals (so many points of comparison)... I received excellent service at North York! Pros: North York staff were all fantastic: knowledgeable, patient, warm, compassionate, caring, and ready to deal with my worries and needs at the drop of a hat. I've had some pretty horrible experiences in other places, with doctors and nurses alike, so this was really a refreshing change. The nurses made me feel at home; my surgeon was not only skilled but also kind. The superstar for me was the anesthesiologist, who made 100% sure I was as comfortable as I could be (some just don't care how much you suffer, since it won't last long, and trust me it can get intense), and asked all the right questions. Cons: Hard to get the right turn off to get in, and the person before me was "misplaced" or "forgotten". This resulted in surgeries getting backed up, but we weren't informed of this and ended up waiting 3 hours instead of 2. These things happen, but a heads up would have been fab!
