Bad service for the public. I have seen a bunch of white cops call a group of blacks n*gg**s. There definitely seems to be some racism going on in the department, just like there is everywhere else.
   They also use intimidation to get people to do things they don't want to or have to, like unwarranted searches. I have had cops harass me into opening my bags near the forest, even though I told them I didn't want to, and I know it is a basic right to say no (I didn't have anything illegal). I have feared for being framed and for my life because I know what they can get away with. No one was around to see what was going on. I have also seen them searching for drugs in order to arrest students multiple times. They make it a priority to bully people with substance use and abuse problems, rather than finding ways to protect the public.

They are such a great help to students . When you need help , during emergencies they are always there to help . The officers are very kind and try to find their way to make sure they assist their students to the best way possible . They are just the best .

The NIU campus police were very helpful in sending an officer wen I needed assistance jumpstarting my vehicle. Despite it taking a few minutes,  I understand that they have other priorities around the campus. I am still thankful for them taking time to help when no one else would.
