Founded in 1953, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art collects and exhibits American art from the 19th century to the present, especially art which illustrates the Ogunquit Art Colonies' role in the formation of American Modernism.
The Ogunquit Museum of American Art is the only museum in Maine devoted exclusively to the exhibition, preservation, and interpretation of American art. The Museum houses a permanent collection of important paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints, and photographs from the late 1800s to the present. Included in the collection is an extensive selection of works by artists associated with Ogunquit’s famous art colony of the early 20th century.
Visitors are invited to enjoy the Museum grounds, three acres of landscaped gardens, lawn and oceanfront ledge. The grounds include numerous large sculptures, a reflecting pool, and secluded benches for quiet contemplation.
