Story

The Game Research and Immersive Design (GRID) Lab, an initiative of Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication, was developed by School of Media Arts and Studies faculty and staff to provide the Appalachian Ohio region with training, education, and an opportunity to develop technical and creative skills with digital game technology. The GRID Lab serves as an innovative and creative center for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff research and project development.

The GRID Lab’s research laboratory opened in September 2005 made possible through a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission and other university and community partners. Since 2005, the GRID Lab has been awarded numerous grants and contracts from state and federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security, Central Ohio Urban Area Security Initiative, the Ohio Board of Regents, and the National Institutes of Health. Please see our Research section of the website for details on past, current, and future projects.

The focus of the Lab is the research and development of serious and educational games, simulations, computer animation, and virtual reality. The GRID Lab provides Ohio University with the personnel, facilities, and tools to create such interactive digital media and technologies.

The GRID Lab is proud to collaborate with the following regional partners: Ohio University’s Innovation Center, TechGROWTH Ohio, and Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs

From the moment I applied I somehow knew I'd be attending this university, and I have to say I'm so glad to be here! Everyone I've ever dealt with, from professors to financial aid staff to the administration of the School of Art + Design, has been very kind and helpful. Because of its histrory and architecture, the campus resembles a private university or a New England town, and the state parks nearby are equally gorgeous.

Partee school! Also one of the most positively unique places on Earth, i think, as indicated by some of these other reviews also. A lot for architechture and pristine nature buffs to absorb, besides uptown and the party college stereotype. You could easily come here for "a weekend" but get lost here forever. The place has a special magic that tends to linger with you.

Amazing college town feel. Students and faculty are very friendly and there to support you. Professors know the content they are teaching and always put your future as a top priority.

OU embodies the phrase "work hard, play hard". If you apply yourself, you will get a great education but you will also learn to live life and meet friends that will last a lifetime. It's an absolutely beautiful campus and you will really immerse yourself within the Athens community. OU really is my hOUme. FYI to all the other reviewers who insist people only go to OU because they couldn't get into OSU - In all four years that I went there, not a single person has ever said "I wish I went to OSU instead". No one cares about them.
