If you love this great nation and that which is our rich history of Americana, than this is a must see. To touch rifles of our fore fathers is awe inspiring, to me at least
Very nice museum...showing history, experiences, story's and artifacts from the civil war.
how can you not like old town and the civil war museum. just walking the street are fantastic. the lady that works here was wonderful and made my visit here very pleasant.
A good museum. I enjoyed the first hand written accounts by the soldiers involved in the battles of the area. I had no idea how many battles had been fought in the area. Also how many times control for the city shifted between Union and Confederates. Highly recommend if you are a gun affectionato.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20
A Civil War museum housed in the old Frederick County Courthouse in Winchester Virginia. You can still see some of the soldiers' names and the pictures they drew on the walls. A collection of items housed in display cases. This two-story building has an elevator and a small gift shop on the first floor Admission fee is $5. Senior discount available. Children 15 and under free.
This place is definitely worth a visit! The exhibits include a remarkable number of artifacts recovered from nearby battlefields. I liked that the numerous battles fought in the Shenandoah Valley were humanized by including quotes from those who were actually there. My favorite part was the preserved graffiti left on the plaster by prisoners of war. As I said, worth a visit.
The Shenandoah Valley is quickly becoming a favorite place for me to visit and to learn about its Civil War history. Went to Cedar Creek two weeks ago, visited here yesterday, and 3rd Winchester today! This museum takes what you see on the battlefield and puts artifacts and more stories of what was happening in the Valley. I loved looking at the Court room, seeing up the bell tower, and seeing the graffiti on the inner walls from the Civil War era. Definitely a cool building with a nice gift shop to boot! I bought a t shirt for the Shenandoah battlefields organization and my girlfriend bought one for her and another for her dad. picture is from a couple weeks ago, April 14th
It's a good museum located in an historic courthouse. This museum focuses on the three B's: Bullets, buckles and badges. They must have thousands of bullets and musket balls all individually labeled. Honestly I kinda lost interest after the first 487... but they also have some other displays and also information about the courthouse itself. It's worth a visit at least once.
