Stonewall Jackson's Headquarters Museum
"This Hudson River Gothic Revival style house, a Virginia and National Historic Landmark, was used as headquarters by General “Stonewall” Thomas Jackson during the winter of 1861-1862. The house contains the largest collection of Jackson memorabilia and also personal objects from members of his staff. The museum has on display Jackson’s personal prayer table, initialed prayer book, and many other Jackson family artifacts. The museum honors the memory of General Jackson’s military genius as Robert E. Lee’s most valuable officer. His sincerity and valor moved men’s spirits to follow him against any odds. General Jackson’s office is essentially the same as when he used it, so it does preserve the essence of his surroundings at that time."

Tour is well worth the time and money. My party was with one other couple. Tour guide was accommodating to the needs of everyone. e.g. time constraint, physical needs. Pictures are not allowed outside the gift shop because much of what you see is exactly the way it was in the 19th century.Wait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Highly recommend visiting this museum. I am usually not a fan of guided tours but the docent providing the tour was engaging and entertaining. He presented the information in a very unique way, including us in the presentation as if we were part of history. His wife was working in the gift shop and was warm and welcoming. If you are in Winchester or near by and have not visited, it is a must see.
Stopped in on a whim while in Winchester and so glad we did. Our tour guide Mike was top notch - learned so much in a short period of time. Great, intimate history experience.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10

After spending my week in 'The Valley' and touring all of General Jackson's historical sights as well as many others CSA White House, Jackson's Lexington Home, Grave I thought by comparison this small pit stop on my way home wouldn't stand up to that in which I had just spent my week visiting. I was absolutely wrong. The small-personal tour that had just 5 of us within the group was one of the most informative tours that I had been on all week. I had learned of Jackson's time in Winchester and facts that I'd never known, while, seeing Jackson relics that would make the National Park Service envious of what is to be found within this house. The prices are incredibly reasonable, the staff was full of knowledge, and very polite. I felt very welcome and without a doubt got my monies worth. The grounds itself and home were very well up kept, with lot's of tender, love, and care. The tour was short but well worth what you are getting to see, photos inside are not allowed. It was one of the best museums that I had ever been in and anyone who is genuinely curious or a fan of "Stonewall" has not completed a journey regarding the man without a stop into this home. A highly encouraged place to visit, enjoy, and donate so that this home can keep in operation for many years to come.
Incredible site and incredible tour! Well worth the $5 per person price of admission. The roughly 45 minute tour is informative and very interesting. The home has 5 rooms downstairs, 3 rooms upstairs, and is filled with incredible artifacts from the war, from Stonewall’s life, and from the history of the home. A lot of furniture and household items that Stonewall used are in the home which makes it all the more impressive.
Such a cool and fun little museum tour! Reba was a really great guide and put a lot of energy into the tour. As a gen-z kid who found history class boring, this was extremely enjoyable and interesting. Everything is very well kept and easy to see. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Winchester. Even if you're not interested in history like myself, this is still something to be checked out.
Loved visiting this place today! The volunteers were very kind and knowledgeable! The house was in great shape and full of artifacts from Stonewall Jackson’s life!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$11–15
This lovely mansion museum is located in downtown Winchester in the northern part of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District. The house was originally built by Lewis T Moore an ancestor of the famous TV movie actress Mary Tyler Moore. She donated money to replicate the gold gilt wallpaper in the room that General Thomas Stonewall Jackson used as his headquarters office during the Civil War from November 1861 through March 11th 1862. Our tour guide was amazing and well worth the $10 admission fee [senior discount available :-].
Not really a history buff, but for those who are interested in all things Civil War related, this is a must see if you are in the area. The tour guide was awesome and provided a lot of detailed information on Tom Jackson and his life.
