The tour was 8$ a person.  It's self guided but there are costumed staff to answer questions. Had a great time , learned a lot, and got to see one reenacter fire a musket. There's also a lot of cool old documentation, so be sure to flip through the binders laying around.

This is the replica of the original fort. It's staff are knowledgeable. There are five places to visit. The replica, the depot (model), the monument, the site, and Blackhawks Memorial. The Depot has more information.

I was lucky to join the living history weekend at Ft. Madison this past weekend. I had a wonderful time meeting the volunteers and the staff.  I loved the buildings and the windows.  I volunteer at Ft. Atkinson SHP located near Omaha, NE and we do not have nearly  as much light in the barrack rooms.

I have to admit listening to the trains during the night and the mosquitoes were not so pleasant.

Thank you for making me feel welcome.  I would like to return in the future.

The staff here was wonderful and their knowledge of the fort history was truly impressive. Make sure you ask if they are giving demonstrations of a musket being fired when you come! Very cool!
