We are a Wellness and Recovery Center for adults living with mental health and/or addiction who are active participants in their own recovery.
On Our Own of Anne Arundel County is a self-help advocacy and peer support program that assists those living with mental illness and addiction. Our mission is to promote wellness and recovery by empowering individuals to reach their full potential through education, activities, peer support, and social networking. On Our Own is available to support people in recovery any way that we can.
On Our Own of Anne Arundel County was founded in 1999 by several mental health consumers seeking support after hospitalization. Community support was unavailable and many consumers felt isolated and adrift. Soon meetings at home and in other venues became the only source of support for some. Eventually, On Our Own of Anne Arundel County was founded with the help of state and county funding.
On Our Own has grown in the past 15 years and increased its visibility in the community. It has formed partnerships with other community organizations and continues to assist those living with mental illness and addictions through peer support, workshops, activities and training. Peer support is a powerful tool in aiding consumers with their efforts to reach wellness and recovery.
