Amazing coffee and great atmosphere. It is small but still has a decent amount of seating. I got a latte and it was probably one of the best lattes I’ve had in a while. And the prices are very reasonable as well. I think Food & Wine was accurate in voting it the best coffee shop in NJ.Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: NoTakeout: Yes
Beautiful little coffee shop, lots of vegan options. Very flavorful coffee and food. I really enjoy the decor. If you're looking for a place to work or have a meeting, or escape work this is a perfect choice.
A treasure cafe for passionate coffee lovers. They are knowledgeable about the brewing process. My pour over was perfect!! Can't wait to go back
Today was my 1st visit. I stumbled upon this cozy Cafe. The batista was polite and friendly. She made recommendations after I mentioned it was my first time there. I went with banana bread she warmed it for me per my request a chocolate chip cookie, black coffee with a splash of pistachio milk and local sourced honey from Isles. The atmosphere is warm and cozy Oct 2022. Ample seating spaced apart, books, magazines, games and jazz music playing for a relaxing atmosphere. Wifi if you want to bring your laptop. Cute ceramic plates and mugs. Along with a variety of coasters. If you get items to go EVERYTHING is and compostable. The prices are great! My coffee was hot and strong. The banana bread was moist and yummy. I will definitely be back to try a tea. Vegetarian options: The banana bread and current fall season pumpkin bread, cookies and others options are available Parking: On street parking is limited, but available
This is my favorite coffee place in Trenton! Atmosphere is great, their coffee is by far one of the best! Love the vegan/vegetarian snacks that they have. You can notice when someone loves what they do and these two guys reflect that.
Had the pleasure to visit this great coffee shop today and my expectations were beyond blown away. First of all the quality of the coffee was spectacular and it was nice to see it's roasted right on premises. The woman working was beyond friendly and was teaching me about one of the drip coffees they had brewed today. This place is so great for Trenton and I hope this a trend in more great local businesses to come in the area.
It's probably not accurate to say this was a pleasant "surprise," since One Up One Down was pretty highly reviewed, but nonetheless it was a definite if not unexpected positive. My chum and I came here for a bit of nourishment/caffeine in the early afternoon this past Saturday. She is a resident of Trenton, a few miles north of this location, but was not familiar with this establishment. It was an interesting drive from her house - I had my first sighting of the River Line light rail, which up until then I'd only seen on NJ Transit maps. Exciting stuff. The neighborhood is honestly not the best. This doesn't rise or sink? to the level of Baltimore featured in The Wire, or even some of the neighborhoods I've driven through in Paterson, but it's definitely rundown and could use some TLC. Hopefully the emergence of a coffeehouse like this is a step in the right direction. The interior is pleasant and a little spartan. I feel like coffeehouses end up either being very cozy/cluttered with a lot of knick-knacks, or very open, almost like a hipster loft in Williamsburg. This was definitely the latter. I think there was literally a bicycle wheel on the wall, along with some comfortable looking couches/seats to plop down on. I can always get down with a seasonal menu item, so I impulsively opted for the maple latte $5 I think, along with a slice of vegan pumpkin bread $3ish. Both were very tasty. I'm super leery about vegan pastries in general - it just seems like by definition all the fun and scrumptiousness is taking out of it when the animals are removed from the equation - but this was probably the best of that genre I've had. Very moist and in a blind taste test I would have had no idea that it was vegan. When we came in, the barista was actually making two of the maple lattes, which seemed like a good omen, and it was. It would have been nice if I had been given some options in terms of milk, etc., but that wasn't a huge deal. You can see in the attached picture that it had a nice presentation, and it definitely did the job on a late November day. Both of us thought this place could be improved with more eating options. My chum's husband actually intended to meet us there and she told him not to because there wasn't anything really substantial to munch on. There was a sign in the fridge indicating that on that particular day they weren't serving wraps, which would have helped at least a little. But even the pumpkin bread wasn't made in-house - it was fished out of a fridge behind the counter. Especially if you're asking customers to make the trek to an area that's a definite work-in-progress, I think you need to give them a bit more incentive than a few outsourced breads/scones. This is a little out of my way even if I'm visiting my aforementioned chum, but it's nice to know you have a decent coffee option in a city that's honestly not known for its gastro scene. Maybe this is a sign that Trenton is figuring out out.
This is a place that understands the definition of medium roast and specialty coffee. Even their espresso is medium roast, which is truly hard to find...anywhere. If you aren't an espresso drinker, I still recommend trying a shot of theirs. It will open your eyes to the reality that coffee doesn't have to taste burnt and bitter if you know how to brew it correctly. Their shop is great... Cozy and not pretentious. They have a tiny bit of food... Just enough to satisfy your snack cravings without forcing the staff to neglect the focus on coffee. Sure, the location isn't great... But it's getting better because of places like this.
Love the atmosphere of this cafe and the owners are extremely knowledgeable about their coffee- I don’t even drink coffee and they were able to make excellent recommendations!! Great vegan food options as well. I could’ve stayed all day, it was so cozy
Great staff and selection. I went off menu today and had their first ever Trenton Smog! If you want to try something new and like both coffee and tea I highly recommend it.
