I had a bad experience with Dr. Irby. Went to him as a workman comp patient. Had a bad back injury. He never ordered his x-ray and took forever to get an MRI done. Said I had muscular problems and sent me to PT which turned out to be useless. Finally sent me for an MRI after 4 months. After the MRI He sent me to see a neurologist by the Dr. Jackson. His prognosis was any man over 45 can fake an injury on an MRI because of the arthritis all people get with age. Dr. Irby offered surgery and then declined only wanting me to have an SEC done. Dr. Irby allowed the Workman comp case manager in the nurses station while being examined. other times she would sit in a chair outside the exam room. He would talk to case manager before and after the exam. The case manager is to wait in the lobby while the patient is being examined and only talk to the doctor after the patient had left. I went to my regular back doctor. I had a fution and a crack repaired. stay away from Dr. Irby!

Bed side manors was horrible. He talks around you instead of to you. Worst Dr.-PATIENT communication. Not able to do surgery so he hurried me up out of his office with minimal consultation.

Dr. Irby seems like a very nice guy, BUT his office staff is unprofessional and rude. The staff was supposed to call me to make an appointment for an epidural. They never called. I called them twice - once sent to his office voice mail. The second time, I was told that they had my message and would call me back. No one ever did. I'm going to see another Dr. in Richmond whose office responded immediately to my needs.

Dr. Irby was very reassuring and informative about my back surgery (lamenectomy) Great bedside manor and understanding of who I was and where I wanted to go His reputation amongst the orthopaedic community was top shelf and his care of me and my back met my high expectations. Glad he was my surgeon!

I found Dr. Irby to be very experienced, knowledgeable, and skilled. He also has a great bedside manner and is very understanding of his patient's needs. Upon my first consultation, during my surgery, and my final meeting with Dr. Irby he carefully explained my options, the procedures being taken, and what the projected prognosis would be after my recovery. I highly recommend Dr. Irby if all other non-surgical options have been attempted and the last recourse is spinal surgery or you need a consultation to determine if surgery is the correct course of action.
