This is a great place to support. Bravo to the students and staff. My mother (god rest her soul), Myself and now my daughter have enjoyed the wonderful benefits of getting our hair done (we are blondes and it can get very pricey to keep our tresses up to date). "Granny" the Head master always consults several times and is truly hands on. The students respect her. One has to remember that the students are students. It can be a little intimidating at first meeting a new client with all the overwhelming desire to do the right job. Simply speak a moment with your student stylist and show them your level of disclosure and watch them open up. But Again ~ their main goal is to take excellent care of your hair while working with new knowledge. Many need to stay focused solely on your hair and may not be as social as you would expect in a salon full of experienced hair dressers. Once in a blue moon you will hear them chatting but listen a little closer and you will hear they are asking and telling one another how they achieved a certain look. I'm very disappointed with some of the reviews submitted here. They are not fair reviews. Give the students a chance. You won't regret it. The Head Master does not allow High Risk processes on damaged hair. We just had that happen. We were told they would have to pull the highlights off early to avoid damage from the permanent color mistake that was done at a Professional salon We discussed the potential outcomes and we were given several choices in the consult. We went with a double process to get the correction. We were also informed by the STUDENT stylist another time not to use hair colors with metals in them or our hair would fry and break off. So ~ If there's a mistake it is small and easily and happily corrected but its usually the customers fault by not disclosing what they have put their hair through or have failed to explain what it is they really wanted. Its always best to have a picture for the student of what you want. I've always received the color in the photo but one time and it was quickly corrected. As with any Salon you should find out who cuts or colors the best before sitting down in a chair. I have never had any regrets the 16 or so times I have sat in one of those chairs. Nor the 30 some times my mother came and went. Try them today. Talk to Granny or Janet and enjoy your freshened or new look.

Super Friendly! This family that runs this place is always kind. I've been taking my kids here for year and occasionally get my hair cut here too. I've never been let down. Such a good deal.

Quick service and students seem happy. People use the "criminal" tag live in glass environments and expect too much. This is a learning on the job service provided at low cost. Personally I feel good supporting a community based business and or an entity that has experienced the one sided action of our so called justice system.

I am a Business Owner of over 35 years I know that being professional is the utmost important part of being a teacher in a school. And when picking the school you want to attend you should check with the State of Washington "Dept of Licensing" and see that this school has numerous violations, Disciplinary actions and they have been filed against Janet Kilmer and Pacific Northwest Hair Academy. Also check for the criminal records and Who is supposed to really own this school and who professes to. Also its a great idea if you are giving your hard earned money you should check and look at the contents of Janet Kilmer and her husbands bankruptcy. Another Great word of advice is ask someone who has attended the school you might choose what their experience was like? Do a lot of research and come up with your own conclusions!
