This is the real deal. The pastries are as good as the ones I grew up with in France. The Mille Feuilles (they call it the Napoleon) is the real thing and my favorite. They are also the only ones I have found that have an amazing and authentic Gallette des Rois for the Epiphany. You could translate it as King Cake but it is not the New Orleans bread served at Mardi Gras. Try it, it is amazing!

I frequent Panorama regularly, and have always experienced stellar service and wonderfully delicious pastries, quiche, chocolate mousse, and whatever surprise specials they may have prepared. I do usually shop late afternoons on Sunday when Union Market is slowing down and mellow. Even then, I let anxious customers in a rush order ahead of me, so perhaps timing is a factor. One time I ordered just the Quiche Lorraine to go, and the server made certain I was aware it was on special that day with a salad and drink, and made sure I selected a special drink and salad dressing. Today, I chatted with the pleasant woman on duty to see how far in advance I needed to make a special order to bring a quiche or pecan pie in to work in December. She was most helpful, offered me some written information on a bag, and beamed a smile and good wish for the week! I adore their macaroons -- banana, orange, chocolate, and vanilla flavors are all spectacular. Eclairs and fruit tarts are also sublime!

I agree with the review about the poor quality of the baking. They were my worst experience in Union Market, and that's saying something. What should have been whipped cream tasted like whipped topping--stale? badly made? actually whipped topping? The crepe wasn't cooked right--the texture and flavor were off. I tried several things and ended up throwing all of them away--the food looks much better than it is, and most of what I had seemed stale. When people cite either rude service or a friendly feeling for a place, I don't trust their review. People have a tendency to hurt their enemies and help their friends.

My daughter really enjoyed the blueberry macaron, and I will agree with her. It was fresh and quite tasty, and I'm not even really a fan of blueberry desserts!

This place is a hit or a miss. I've eaten some amazing things here, like their slices of cakes and pies, but then they have things like cookies and croissants that just never taste good, sometimes are stale.
