I began attending PVUMC almost a decade ago. I feel it's unfriendly to moderates/conservatives. I don't care if someone leans left, but I care when politics alienate, incorrectly characterize, and attack those who differ. I hope this is a heads-up to those who are center/right-leaning and it opens the staff's eyes to the fact that not everybody has the same politics/does not appreciate how political the church has become. The church does not follow its own slogans: God's love in action/Love that crosses all barriers. Tweets: 7/13 - linked to an article: "While white evangelicals overwhelmingly support Trump, other Americans of faith have become a key arm of the resistance to the president’s assaults against immigrants and refugees, the environment, women’s rights, the poor, and the norms of American democracy." "By returning to church, I hoped to serve as a witness to white Christians like my father who, I believed, turned their backs on the gospel mandates to love our neighbors and to care for the least privileged among us." 8/13 #lovetrumpshate. Why slight the president and use a political slogan? Fb: 8/21 Shared event: "President Donald Trump and Gov. Doug Ducey have made it clear that they are on the side of hate and bigotry this week." Why link to this?  Did PVUMC link to protesting events under other administrations? 2/11 "When the travel ban against refugees from 7 countries, including Syria, went into effect..." I can't recall anything similar being said when a former President barred some Muslim immigrants from coming to the U.S. 6 times. 2/5 Link to article condoning illegal immigration and states this "is no debate for people of faith". "At the end of week one of President Trump we are seeing what we saw over and over during the presidential campaign: the articulation of opinions and policies that go far beyond political ideology and fly blatantly in the face of the fundamental, core teachings of Jesus Christ." If you're a Christian you must support illegal immigration.   1/31 Post includes: “Say ‘no’ to the walling off of our country..."  Building a wall is wrong, I guess. 11/25 Link to video which says: "Those who feel targeted by the coming Trump presidency now can look at these notes to see the love and support that people in the city have for them."  Was there a video like this for other presidents? 11/10 Video begins: "Waking up in Donald Trump's America."  Video goes on to attack those who lean right while not correctly articulating these positions.  Do those who lean right not care about Muslims, immigrants or human rights? PVUMC considered joining RMN, an activist group and supporter of BLM. RMN seems to attack those who hold different political views. The decision of whether to join RMN caused heated debate, an exodus of 30+ families and resulted in the church moving from its focus on Jesus. Those opposed to joining RMN felt they were labeled "homophobic". 11/15 RMN blog following the election: "While some people say that religion and politics don’t mix, we disagree. As followers of Jesus, we are deeply troubled by the recent election of Donald J. Trump and Mike Pence to the offices of president and vice-president of the United States." "We are deeply troubled because the next president and vice-president of the United States have unapologetically targeted women and children, immigrants, black and brown people, persons with disabilities, Muslims, and queer and trans persons..." Do you want to attend a church where the clergy wants to join this organization? PVUMC is not a member of the RMN "at this time". In a class I took, nearly every member made disparaging comments about Republicans/the president. Openly criticizing those you disagree with was common here. It saddens me this church has changed so much.  It's one thing to be passionate about politics; it's another to inject politics into church and to have members so adamant about their beliefs that they're intolerant of those who disagree with them.   So: Is this really the church you are looking for?

PVUMC is more than just a church...it's my village!! Great members, great programs, and I love making great memories there!

I joined PVUMC because I was looking for a church home that was welcoming and supportive. The church runs a high-quality, affordable Vacation Bible Camp every summer, and has enough volunteer support to run a high-quality Sunday School program year-round. Now that I'm working for the church, I see how dedicated and caring the staff and clergy are, and how so many within the church give of their time, talent and treasure. We strive to welcome everyone, no matter where you are on your faith journey. We are an inclusive, spirit-filled congregation, with a vision of love that crosses all barriers and embraces all people.
