Claiming to be a true French restaurant in Pittsburgh, we had the chance to try it when some friends came to town and we also happened to get a gift certificate to it. The dinner menu was not very appealing but they had a Sunday brunch menu that was, and so we made reservations and tried them out. The four-star rating that I decided to give them is a mix of the good things and not so good things that we saw and experienced. We’ll start with Nathan who was our server. He was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the menu – able to explain things to all of us – and was not intimidated by our questions and sometimes quirky sense of humor. He checked on us frequently throughout the meal and made sure our water glasses were full and if we needed anything. Definitely five-star service. The food was very good as well. Everything we tried was cooked well and generously seasoned. Being French food, butter and fat dominated – which is not a bad thing and you should expect this. On the other hand, there were a few misses. Everything is basically a la carte. When you read the menu, you will see them mention that a salad comes on the side. That is simply not true. There is a garnish of well dressed and tasty lettuce leaves on the side, but it’s not a salad. If you want side veggies, you have to order them separately. We did that, and both the Asparagus in Hollandaise sauce and Haricot Verts in a butter garlic sauce were executed very well although the beans were not trimmed at all so we did have some stems to deal with. The Eggs Benedict were cooked well, but, again, were minimalist: Two eggs on a baguette, with a squish of Hollandaise Sauce on top. The bigger miss was the prices. This place is super expensive, even with the general inflation these days. Each of our plates was pushing close to $20. Glasses of wine were in the $15-20 range as well. Now, if these were super premium wines that might have been Ok, but we are talking about Aperitifs like Kir and wines like Beaujolais! We ended up spending around $200 for the four of us for brunch! Couple that with the minimalist approach to the food and the great service and quality food balance it out but still come down on the less than great side. ==== Thank you for the prompt response, Monsieur Rongier. The nice thing about reviews is that they are personal opinions. By being that, they are neither necessarily correct, nor incorrect. While I may agree or disagree with you, and you with me. I stand by my review.
A small street frontage connects to a long back space, via the kitchens. The menu reflects a traditional French bistro, but the food was a slight disappointment: the onion soup was scalding hot good but more broth than onion; the chicken thighs in cider dish from Normandy arrived with a brown sauce, which wasn't what I was expecting, and came with literally no vegetables. Wine by the glass was decent, if a touch expensive. My server was great.
Amazing restaurant, must come back to try other dishes. My fav was: The rainbow trout & the mussels cooked with garlic, parsley, butter. We also enjoyed the French onion soup, snails in garlic was good with side of fries that was tasty, & Steak was cooked perfectly goat cheese salad was nice. Must leave space for the chocolate mousse.
Pretentious and expensive. We went on Sunday for brunch without a reservation and they said there were "fully booked" however they accommodated us, which we appreciated. However there were plenty of open tables in the restaurant. Maybe they were under staffed. Im sorry but $14 for a mimosa is way too much. Eggs Benedict plate for $18 is an expensive breakfast. An expresso double for over $5 is overpriced. Service is good and staff is friendly. I think perhaps is the owner that wants to charge extra, for really nothing out of the ordinary. This was the most expensive brunch I've ever had. For 2 people, over $60 and not including the tip, honestly, I do not recommend this place because of the pricing. There are plenty of less priced and highly rated places around this restaurant.
Had a decent meal, first time eating French food. Overall fun. Foie gras is nice and “appetizing”, a bit shy on quantity though. Demi-glacé sounds so tasty on paper but it tastes a bit boring. the shank was cooked thoroughly so that is all right. Waiter is great, filling up my water all the time and not bothering me while I am eating. Left this review because I had even more fun reading the owner debate the one-star reviews in French. Keep it up, man.
Food was very good but pricey. Most of the entrees come with no sides $28-$43. Had the trout. $29 which was good but surprised the restaurant can’t find a few vegetables to go on the plate. The Dijon mussels were very good. We also had the goat cheese salad and the salad with the filet… also very good. Had the chocolate mousse and macaroon for desert. All good.
My wife, her sister and I went to Paris 66 today at 11 AM. The host sat us at a fine partial booth. Our server Nathan was excellent, the food marvelous and the dessert tasty. The meal totalled more than $300. However as the check came and it was time to pay, we put our American Express cards out, Nathan took them brought them back an informed us that their credit card machine couldn't accept them. The restaurant had had a problem for the last 3 days. We should have been informed by the host before we were seated. We were NOT. He profusely apologized and sent the manager over to the table. He was rude and basically told us it was what it was until they could talk to American Express next week and fix the problem. We wondered why we weren't informed before ordering seeing that that may have been our only method of payment. He said it was unfortunate that we weren't. We explained that this ended our experience on a bad note and said it might be a good idea to at least put a note on the door explaining the problem. He basically told us that was our opinion and basically did not care. Meanwhile Nathan our server was approaching all of his customers and telling them the restaurant could not accept American Express temporarily. Unfortunately this soured the entire experience for us.
Very clean restaurant with friendly staff and great food. Drinks are absurdly expensive for what you get 18 for a cocktail. Owner comes to the tables, greets everyone, and seems very genuine and cheerful. All in all, a pretty good experience. Recommended.
Small quaint French cuisine. They lost my reservation after taking my credit card and home info, but got us in after I showed them my phone log. Everything is Al carte. Crepe Suzette was a nice dessert. 150 per person with tip. The meal was delicious. Chateaubriand is not flambaed at the table but just as delicious as if it had been. This place has limited hours so try to make reservation. Ask for a confirmation.
Excellent attention from wait staff. Delicious food from chefs. Rudest manager. They didn't tell us prior to our $300 plus meal that they weren't accepting American express even though a sticker on the front door indicated they do. We told manager he should post a sign on front door. He said "thats your opinion" Will definitely try out other French restaurants in Pittsburgh rather go back to Mr Rudeness.
