Story

One shop downtown was good, but two is even better. Check out our most recent store dedicated to road and cross bikes. Of course we still have all the general stuff you need too. If not, it’s just right around the corner at our mountain and commuter shop on 5th.

Paul's has been my bike shop for years. I purchased my first new bike here many years ago, a Raleigh C30 I believe. The bike was a tank and I rode it all over Lane County for years. Paul's always kept it in tune and running perfect. On one service visit the mechanic found a hairline crack in the frame. Well, I thought that was that, since I had owned the bike for a number of years that I would have to bite the bullet and buy a new bike. Not quite! The mechanic contacted Raleigh and secured me a huge discount off any Raleigh that I wished to purchase from Paul's . Wonderful, and the mechanic did this all on his own for me. Got a brand new Raleigh and paid very little after the discount. This is just one example of how the people at Paul's go that extra mile for you. We moved to Colorado in 2007 and I used the Raleigh a lot there as well. I finally gave it up for a road bike. We moved back to wonderful Eugene in 2015, and decided to give up our road bikes in favor of two wonderful Trek FX3's from our favorite shop, Paul's. Glad to be back and glad to know Paul's is still here doing the excellent work they have been doing for years! If you are in need of a new bike or repairs/advice/anything bike related, Paul's is the place for you!

Horrible experience. I went in to have fenders put on. I schedule an appointment. Come back a few days later. I was told it would be about an hour. Come back and it was more like an hour and a half. That's ok, things happen and delay. When I got the bike back though, which I just rode fine there, the seat was way to high and something was rubbing the wheel. So I take it back inside. He apologized about the seat and looked at the wheel. He told me it was my wheel bearings. He gave me the bike back and it would barely roll. I told him it wasn't right and he said ok and took my bike back to the shop, where I couldn't see him and he didn't tell me what he was doing. Several minutes later, he comes back and tell me he took apart my hub, and that it definitely was the wheel bearings. I'm late for work at this point and so I take it.... I don't necessarily believe him but at this point, I don't want him touching my bike and it rolled better than before, although not like how I brought it in. He gave my bike back to me with an uninflated tire! 3 different times we went back and forth, and ultimately made me late for work. Just poor care and lack of respect for my bike. Maybe he thought I knew nothing about bikes, I am a girl you know, but when I managed to get home today and looked at my bike, the wheel isn't set right. And the quick release is on so tight that not even my manly man of a neighbor can get it to release. Back to the bike shop tomorrow, but definitely not this one. Horrible service.

Service was fast, expert, and friendly. Had major tuneups and repairs done on two older bikes. Both work great now.

Clearly there's a lot of local love for Paul's. They've been around for years in various locations. I stopped in today for something small, mainly to feel out the vibe. A mix of customers and staff were talking shop. My requests were met, but I felt like more of a burden than a potential customer. I even tried making conversation, asking a question or two, and the fellow answered curtly and told me good day. That was that. Nothing terrible or rude, I simply didn't feel welcomed. I suspect the targeted clientele are yearslong loyal customers and middle/upper class road bike hobbyists looking to drop some good money. Oregon folks that are really into their bicycles, or wine, or beer-making.... There are a lot of introverts up here. The socially awkward exclusivity that wafts around these scenes can be off-putting for new people, at least on the retail end.

Bought my Scott bike about 6 months ago and absolutely zero complaints. They took the time to make sure I bought the bike that fit my needs They have great recommendations on weather proofing your commute, again, tailored to what you are actually doing. I've only gotten a couple flats in all that time and 40+ miles a week commuting, and each time they fixed my flat before I was done shopping for needed/wanted items. This working woman does not have time for flats, I'll be off on my commute tomorrow at 5:30 am stress-free with time to relax at home (which is critical when you work at 6 am), thank you!
