Mission

To nurture awareness and appreciation of the history of Perry County through the collection and preservation of artifacts so that present and future generations may understand, appreciate, and learn from the past.

For local history museums, the Perry County Museum has a lot of character. It's located in the former Perry County Court House in Cannelton, Indiana that was built in 1896. Much of the original architecture remains. The museum has many exhibits on the main level of the building featuring artifacts from Perry County and it's people. There's a good representation of local pottery, school memorabilia, businesses, industry and every day life. The military room is one of the more popular exhibits with a collection of uniforms and items brought home from war by local veterans. The museum is open for regular hours once a week, but is very accommodating to special requests for schools, groups, and out of town guests. Museums like this are important to communities as they collect, research, and share the story of their heritage and histories.
