I've been on and off in this store a few times, and there are absolutely horrific things and good things about it. 

I'll start with the good things. The store is clean, except on days they receive shipments of animals - which sit around in cardboard boxes with screens and the like if necessary until the workers get them put away. Everything is organized, neatly displayed and things are easy to find. The "bar" of natural dog treats are good for my dogs, and I even break some up and treat my rats as well. 

Let's move on to the bad.... Well, they don't know what they're doing with their live animals at all. This is very common in pet stores, they only really want stockers and cashiers and they don't want to take the time to give them some basic knowledge of care - even a standardized pamphlet on the animal care would be perfect. More than once, I've seen rats with respiratory diseases or stress and their reptiles are not well cared for. The fish are easy, you have them in water and keep the pH appropriate. Several times, I have seen baby ball pythons with horrible sheds and terrible weight sitting in an inappropriate heat and humidity, and NO ONE does anything about it. 

The people they tout as their "experts" on these animals don't know anything about them, and when asked if they could grab a spray bottle and do something for the suffering animal, they say "Petco won't let me...." Bull. Do something about your animals and stop letting them die on your watch - educate your employees in the bare basics.

I went to Petco today to get some supplies for my Aquarium. After I got the supplies I browsed the fish and saw a garfish. I was considering getting it. There was a male employee  giving information to a woman about starting a tank. I stood around figuring when he was done with her he'd ask if I needed help. When he was done he left. Never asked did I need help or anything. I put the supplies back and bought it at Petsmart not far up the road.  I'll never go back to Petco. If anyone from Petco reads this here's some advice. There are many Pet Stores in the Lexington/Columbia area. Act right or you'll easily be out of business.

Awesome service! The people that work there are the friendliest, kindest, most helpful of my site I've been in. They are even great with my Grandchildren. Caleb, at the register was amazing and saved me money me there was a guy that showed life boys the snakes and told them all about each one. Kudos! And thank you so much! Go to this store! Cheaper than the "other" competition store too.

Awesome experience as always but they were out of stock on the item we wanted with our pets gift card  will have to order online and wait for it

Was visiting the local fish stores from the area to see the quality they kept their freshwater selection. I was not impressed. I know variety in big box stores isn't always there, but at least maintenance can be done and take out the dead bodies. You can tell a fish body has been there for a bit, when half of it is missing.
