I had a wonderful police officer (now retired) go out of his way to find my email address to let me know my wallet was found at the Phoenix airport and was stored in the Found Property dept (Police Dept). . (I had lost last month and while I filed a lost report with the airport, it wasn't reconciled with the airport report and  sent to police property).  I live out of state and my nephew lives in Phoenix so I called the Found Property area to see if he could pick up on my behalf. They said yes, but I needed a notarized letter authorizing him to do so. I explained since I am out of state that I could scan and email him the form if they would take a copy. The woman I spoke with said yes. So now he is there and they are saying no. So much for well trained staff and providing accurate info.  They were very bureaucratic with my nephew and not at all helpful or empathetic. Luckily I called the police department and asked if they could help.  So a Sargeant's office called for me to appeal on my behalf and also faxed over the authorization from me to the property area directly. Their own internal office also got grief.    I understand they have to verify that I am the owner of the wallet, however I provided my DOB, Driver's licenses number, description of wallet and even some of the other contents inside the wallet. .The most disappointing is how rude and bureaucratic they were in dealing with my nephew over the entire situation.  They also don't provide any service (for a fee) to return lost property so I don't know what someone does who is from out of area and can't return to pick up their lost item. Really people? Not very with the times in their approach.  My nephew was there for over an hour dealing with this.
