I am so disappointed in this library. There is either a genuine ignorance, or an outright attempt to abuse a role of a publicly funded institution. For Black History Month, the children’s library staff put a sign up at the entrance to the children’s section that read “black lives matter.” When I inquired to the staff and the communications director of the library why this was the display for Black History Month, their response was they wanted to bring awareness to the oppression and initiate a dialogue with parents and their children. How, I wonder, is a parent supposed to explain such a thing to children who are toddler to 6, 7 or 8 and why is this the job of a library and not a decision a parent should make at the appropriate time? I asked that if they must leave the sign up, to move it to a more appropriate section. They responded with adding more inclusive quotes, which I appreciate, but it does not negate the fact they are using a controversial organization’s slogan to publicize a month meant to highlight the achievements made and the central role held by African Americans in American History. Instead, the organization they chose to highlight is currently involved in several lawsuits alleging they initiated violence that led to the severe injury and death of others and has also labeled itself as a political organization. I even sent the actual clause in the American Library Association’s Code of Ethics for keeping a library neutral. Unfortunately it is the end of the month, so I expect nothing will come of my further request of including quotes from other prominent African Americans who have opposing viewpoints. But I am curious; when National Jewish American Heritage month arrives in May, will the library staff bring awareness to the religious persecution and anti-Semitism this demographic faces daily, or does that not fit into the narrative? I am giving it two stars as my children once enjoyed their programs. I hoped they would have the opportunity to continue building their ideas of all people through meaningful interactions at these library events, as it should be. However, I am not interested in being forced to bring up something my children have never pondered in all their friendships they’ve made across this country. When the time is appropriate, I will be happy to confirm that there are people on all sides who make terrible decisions and people on all sides who make kind decisions and that the epidemic of kindness is far greater than they can imagine in spite of any attempts to divide us.

This library has very friendly staff with a desire to help you get any resources you are needing! I appreciate the free guest pass use of the library computers without having to be proven as a Colorado Springs resident.

For those looking for a quiet place to read or study this place may not be the best place. I've been there three times and the first time was great. The second and third time not so great. Some ppl allow their children to run freely without controlling them, and this was outside the children's activity they held earlier that morning. During the children's activities they hold, I'd expect it to be louder than usual with children playing and screaming- they're there to have fun and I hope they do. Today an employee had a lengthy, loud, and disruptive conversation with I believe to be a volunteer. I know libraries will not be perfectly quiet, that's unreasonable to expect. However, there is a reasonable expectation to uphold the atmosphere of a library. It was especially disappointing to see an employee violating that atmosphere. That's just my experience, maybe you'll catch it on a better day.

A library should be a place that is at least semi-quiet. The past few times I have been here it is loud enough to made it difficult to study for college classes. Even with headphones on, I could hear laughing and shouting around me. The first time I came here, several months ago, there was a bagpipe performance. Seriously, bagpipes. I thought at first it was a joke. It wasn't. If you want to have the ability to concentrate and get things done I would go somewhere else. I was in the western area, which according to feedback from another review, is the Quiet Area. It wasn't.
