Pilates Sports Center

About

At Pilates Sports Center, we merge both the classical and progressive styles of Pilates. We collaborate with physical therapists and sports medicine pros.

Story

Pilates Sports Center was created and founded by Andromeda Stevens and Kelli Altounian. The internationally recognized PSC Teacher Training Program teaches both Classical and Progressive principles and fuses them together in a way that has never been seen or done before. This kind of forward thinking has created PSC joint ventures with the Sports Club/LA, Reebok Sports Club/NY, Yoga Works, Equinox Fitness Clubs and other high integrity companies in the fitness world. PSC is the original creator of the “Common Problems Workshop” taught at fitness conventions and studios around the country. Yes Pilates.com, Pain Solutions Magazine, Daily Find, Encino Sun and Pilates-Pro.com have featured the work of PSC in articles available online. PSC has also created the very popular “Jump Board Workout: Series I, II, and III” DVDs as well as the “Pilates for Men: 10-20-30 Challenge” DVD series, as seen on YouTube. Newest titles are: the Cardio Springboard / Tower Workout, Advanced Pilates Cadillac Techniques, The Foam Roller Fitness Workout, Spilt Pedal Wunda Chair Workout, The Burn at the Barre Workouts series and the Pilates PMS Relief Workout.

PSC takes great pride in their innovative design of the “Comfort Carriage” which has been a breakthrough modification for the Reformer for the larger/taller population. In addition to being recognized as a Fostering Future Professionals entity with the PMA, PSC continues to create various workshops, DVD’s, and is dedicated to bringing education and innovation to the forefront of the Pilates field.

Mission

The goals of the PSC are to offer cutting edge classes and education in an upscale environment and provide high level instruction from our Studio in LA to all Master Trainers and PSC Grads Nationwide.

I LOVE Pilates! It’s one of my newfound fitness loves so you should be aware that I’m eager and willing to try different studios without hesitation. With this said, I’ve been around the block enough to know that when I see older (senior citizens) adults in the class or studio it is a great sign and Pilates Sport Center has a ton of great signs. 1. If you are new to Pilates a lot of the movements are confusing to execute. You need to get used to the machine and knowing how to contort your body while working the machine could be a bit daunting. The instructors here are super nice and gentle. They realize everyone is at a different fitness level and they truly accommodate individuals based off your level. 2. Pilates is intimidating af! I mean when I first started all I would see (and no offense) was skinny white girls. I mean girls already in-shape who probably workout 7times a week. So when I first started I never thought I would master the moves nor look like those women (and I still don’t but I represent for the short black girls with a gut ^_^). Here the class is diverse. They have men and women of all fitness levels and size working out. 3. Sometimes the music can be distracting! Some studios like to blare electropop while you Pilates and while that’s cute, I am more focused on staying on the machine and listening to the instructors next move. Here the music is at a gentle and relaxing hum and you can really focus on the instructor. With all this being said I love this studio because they take it easy but the workout is crazy challenging, which you will certainly feel days after. Diversity matters! I like being in a class that’s also generationally diverse. There were older people getting privately trained as well as in class. I’m not looking to get injured and I know the workout is sustainable based on the clientele. Parking was free and simple, located in an underground facility. The space was clean and bright. Simple décor reminiscent of a gym but imagine a gymnasium dedicated to the art of Pilates.

I would've put all the stars out there... but have not been to any other studio like this one, so can't really compare. I've been going there for about a year or may be even more and love it! i mainly take burn at the barre classes. All the teachers are honestly great, it just depends what pace you like more and how difficult you want it be. And by the way you can always make it more/less difficult for yourself. I especially enjoy classes with Keli D and Helena. Classes always start on time, never cancelled ( at least i can't recall). If your teacher is out there is always coverage available. Very clean and well organized, and reasonably priced. i can only wish they have more those amazing deals that i loved in the past... So overall this is a great place, i highly recommend it to anyone who wants to look and feel beyond well!!
