This bank hires convicted felons to manage wealth Across the nation we are hearing an outcry against domestic violence by football players. This is because football players are supposed to meet a minimum standard of acceptable behavior. The NFL has been judged harshly for not enforcing tougher penalties. What about other professions like wealth managers for big banks? If PNC Bank took felony domestic violence seriously then my friend would still be alive. I am deeply saddened every time I hear Ray Rice’s name on TV because all I can think about is my longtime friend Diana Duve. Diana’s life was violently taken from her by her ex-boyfriend Michael Jones. Jones was a Wealth Manager for PNC Bank making a six figure salary and assuming important and respected roles in the community because of his position. Yesterday, I found out that PNC Bank hired Michael Jones even though they knew he had a violent felony on his record. They chose to hire this man who had been convicted for stalking a previous girlfriend with a gun and threatening to murder her. Not only did they decide to hire him with a six figure salary, they paid this felon $5,000 to relocate to Vero Beach. By paying to bring this known violent man to Vero they chose to risk the physical safety of the women in our community. They took this risk in order to save themselves money. Bringing Jones to Vero may have saved the bank the cost of hiring a respectable professional but it cost our community deeply. I could try and write about the kind of; friend, daughter and nurse Diana was, but nothing I wrote here could be a good enough tribute to her. Instead of getting to watch her live out her bright future, I watched the Mother of one of my closest friends bury her only child. If you are a client at PNC Bank I urge you to move your money and stand with the friends and family of Diana Duve. We wish to send a message that there must be a zero tolerance policy for domestic violence in all industries, especially among ones where employees are rewarded richly and expected to demonstrate model behavior. From the football fields to PNC Bank here in Vero Beach, we can not allow the safety of women to be jeopardized in exchange for profit. These are the daughters, sisters, friends and mothers in our community that PNC chose to gamble. I hope you will decide to move your money and help us tell PNC Bank that this community takes domestic violence seriously.
