We were waiting to see if this place would open up before we left town, since the opening date seemed to be moving around. Good thing they opened this week, so we could try it. We got the grouper tacos and shrimp and chorizo tacos. Each taco dish comes with 3 tacos. What I first noticed when the food came was the inconsistent amount of ingredients on the tacos. 1 taco barely had any chorizo on it, and you can see in my picture of it that most of that taco's tortilla was under another taco's, so I don't know how they missed the chorizo on that one. At least it wasn't missing any shrimp, but those are individualized per taco. A similar thing happened with the grouper taco where one of the tacos had half or less the amount of grouper fish on it compared with each of the other 2 tacos. Hopefully, they will make the tacos more even ingredient-wise, as they are currently priced around $5 or more for each taco... So I would hope to be getting 3 even tacos for each dish instead of 2 regular sized ones and 1 skimped one. One of the grouper taco tortillas was falling apart into a ton of pieces, which made me think they should double up their tortillas like some other Mexican restaurants with tiny tortillas do, but these seem to be more freshly made, so maybe it's hard to provide so many. The tacos lack consistency in filling sizes, but they make it up with flavorful sauces. The shrimp and chorizo tacos were spicier than I expected. I also tried a bit of the bodhisattva taco and found that was spicy, too. If you want "hotter" tacos, I would pick one of these dishes. Someone in my party mentioned that the bodhisattva tacos were too spicy, and the chef's wife graciously offered them ice cream, so this restaurant has showed they value customer satisfaction.
Fantastic food, heavy pours and a super chill vibe; this new spot near downtown Chagrin exemplifies design and culinary experience that is hard to come by with a new restaurant. Grab a seat while you can!
I'm so excited for this place to be open, its just what the Chagrin restaurant scene needs! The menu is truly different from any other modmex place I've been. Yes, it has all the traditional favorites but there's also a flavorful, adventurous twist on everything. I had the roasted pumpkin tacos which were the perfect blend of sweetness, heat, and crunch, and I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. The atmosphere and decor is fantastic, clean and modern while still feeling inviting. There are so many unique touches to everything from the succulant crowned two-tops to the beautiful lighting. Obviously, I'd highly recommend PonyBoys to everyone!
Last night, my family and I experienced an out of this world meal at Pony Boys in Chagrin Falls. I opted for my favorite, the tortilla soup, chips, and guacamole and could not have been more pleased. We had the pleasure of sitting at a new high top table in the back that was both stylish and enjoyable. I was in awe of the great options the new menu had to offer, making sure everyone's needs were met. The attention to detail in the restaurant was unmistakable and the milk and cookies was divine! I have to give a big thumbs up to Pony Boys for an unforgettable meal.
Had the chips and guac, duck tacos and shrimp tacos. All were more than delicious! So mad we didn't take pictures, we scarfed it down too quickly! Parking was easy, service was amazing, and food perfect. O and we got dessert, melt in your mouth! What a great experience!
I had the masa chicken. The fried cornbread tasted like I drank from the fryer. It was way too heavy and the sides were hard as a rock. The chicken was average, the sauce tasted like cumin only. It was very one dimensional. The decor is overplayed, I tire of this trend. The burnt tomato salsa was watery and gross. I was looking forward to this, damn my expectations, I was disappointed. Do not recommend. Unless you go for the margaritas. Those were okay.
The food was fine, although it seems a shame that they’re no longer focusing on “Modern Mexican” and are now branching out. Most noteworthy of our experience, we were there for 1hr50min; we ordered drinks, appetizers, entrees, post-dinner drinks and at the end of our meal we were asked nicely, but still… to wrap things up because our table was needed. Ouch.
This place had a great décor and great vibe. Everything was clean and looked new. We were very impressed with the over all look. we were a table of 4 Our server took a while to greet us. I was surprised because because there were only 4 tables seated. When he finally arrived he gave us a tour of the menu but it was rushed and he could not answer all of our questions. We ordered drinks and those took over 15 minutes to get to our table. Then we had to flag our server down to order apps. We ordered salsa , guacamole, and the Dirty corn. Those took 20 minutes to get to our table. The apps were amazing. We could get enough. We were very excited to order our entrees because of how amazing the apps were. Again we had to flag down our server to order entrees. We got the chicken bowl , Shrimp bowls and the tacos. It took over 25 minutes for two entrees to made it to the table. Then we had to wait 5 more minutes for one more entrée and then another 5 minutes for the fourth entrée to arrive. The server did not apologize and didn’t even ask if we needed anything else. At one point he did see that our waters were low and he dropped of a pitcher of water and said I am way to busy right now so here you go. The entrees were amazing . We loved everything. Food was cooked perfectly and the flavors were awesome! We finished our entrees and we sat there with a dirty table and we didn’t see our server for over 40 minutes. We just wanted to get our bill. I had to ask the host to get our bill. The bill finally arrived and we sat there for another 30 minutes and no server. I walked up to the bar and asked the bartender to ring us out. We just wanted to get out of here. I also told the bartender about our experience and he informed a manager of our experience as well. The manager came over and took items off our bill and she apologized for everything. She really wanted to make sure we left happy. She went above and beyond to make things right. We told her we loved the food and we will definitely be back because of the food. We just need to keep in mind the service is not good. The food makes up for the lack of service.
1st time in with 4 ladies. Mexican is my f a v so I was looking forward to eating here. It wasn't busy inside so we sat in. Waitress was a bit pre-occupied with something..not really helpful seemed annoyed. But she announced they were out of 2 things. We ordered the pricey Margs and 3 salsas...The menu choices were a bit different but we all felt non of our meals were anything standout. We all asked for crema and more salsa to put on our meals. Maybe will give it another try...sometime. Parking: Definitely parking issues over there !
We had a reservation and made it on time. Still waited nearly an hour to be seated. It was a Saturday night, but the original hostess seated others without reservations before us. Once the hostess was switched out we were seated, but I found the atmosphere to be unwelcoming & definitely would not return. Parking: We used valet because the lot is awkward & small
