Respectful department overall. Lived on Holten St which is a bit rough and they always came when there were issues and there were plenty (with the neighbors). My only issue was one time I was doing grave stone rubbings for an art project at USM and the police rolled through and told me to leave the cemetery and upon asking why I go the typical “Are you questioning me” response. Lol they must teach that at the academy. Anyway. These guys and gals are alright in my book. Just leave the cemetery to the dead people and you’ll be ok!

I very much respect and appreciate my local law enforcement and all they do for the community, but my ordeal with the Portland police has really shown me their incompetence of particular civil duties. This was our very first accident, so the process was new to us. Everyone we talked to (with the exception of one office officer) was beyond rude, and every person and officer gave us different instructions each time. We were involved in a minor accident and were first told that we needed to get together with an officer and the other driver to take a report. After the other driver drove forty minutes into Portland, and then waiting another thirty for an officer to show up. We were informed that the other driver didn't really need to be there, and a report could not be done without looking at the damage to our car. We were told to go to Moody's (where the car is STILL awaiting repairs) and call an officer to look at it. After we arrived at Moody's and called, we were told an officer would not come and told to take pictures and bring them in to the station to do a report. We did so, went to the police station, the women at the desk was extremely rude, unfriendly, and unhelpful without even a ballpark estimate as to a waiting time. We waited forty minutes before asking the other people waiting how long they had been there, which turned out to be a little over an hour. With them in line before us, and already having waited almost an hour ourselves, we decided to go back the next morning. The following morning we went back and were told that we needed the registration and insurance from the car, which meant we had to drive all the way to the car in South Portland (where we had also just been the day before taking pictures of the car,) then all the way back to finally do the report. I get that this is all very basic, but when it's something that you've never done before, it's a little intimidating. It took a total of getting jerked around for four days and wasting hours of time and gas before finally getting the report just so we could start the process of having the car repaired.

Corruption and injustice exists, there are several orchestrated individuals in the police department who hide behind their badge in the honor of justice. If you believe that justice was not served, or suspect something its probably true, until we all stand up it will continue to happen, certain individuals with plate numbers in the pictures below are suspicious in their behavior, becoming doctors not police officers, giving diagnoses, and trying to make people out to be crazy, but their organized, orchestrated behavior is the crazy part. Be cautious .....

Five Stars to the Portland Police Officer who was able to capture my very shy skiddish recently adopted beagle, Gunner, on Congress Street near Fore River neighborhood. When the stubborn little beagle wouldn't walk with the officer, he picked him up and carried him to his vehicle. He was missing 27 hours in frigid weather and this was such a relief to him returned to us 5 days before Christmas.
