A municipal police department policing the fourth largest city in the State of Maine.

This site is intended as a mechanism for interaction and engagement with our community. The department reserves the right to hide or remove postings or comments in violation of the following guidelines:

7. Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public, public systems or department employees;
8. Content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party; and
9. Disclosures of confidential and / or privileged information.

Mission

The mission of the South Portland Police Department is to work cooperatively with all citizens to protect life and property, preserve peace, enforce laws and maintain civil rights through proper and responsive community based service.

The intended purpose of this departmental Facebook account is to serve as a mechanism for official communications between the
department and members of the public. The department retains the right to remove improper content, or ban violating users, from the site. As guidelines, articles and comments containing any of the following shall not be allowed:

1) Comments not topically related to the particular social medium article being commented upon;

2) Profane language or content; verbal harassment, retaliation, or bullying;
