Story

Prime presents sophisticated steak house classics in an elegant setting matched by friendly, attentive service. The quintessential steakhouse experience. The restaurant has been called the "ultimate in ambience." Beautiful tan walls, chandeliers, and black granite counter tops serve as the backgound to our intimate supper club. We are open 7 days a week serving prime cut steaks and fresh seafood. Our full Bar, handmade specialty cocktails and our well selected wine list complement the menu. Live Music 3-4 nights a week including our popular "Frank Sinatra" Tuesdays. There is always something going on at Prime. My wife and I went there for the first time there day before Valentine's day. We knew it would be busy but have always wanted to try the place. We called and got a last minute reservation. When we got there they say is in the bar area, which is fine. However, because they were so busy and the bartender was or server as well, it took a long time to get service.  It's hard to do both when you are making all the drinks for a packed house. They apologized to us and said they were slammed and a few people called out. We ordered the 4 course meal and was informed last minute that the prime rib was sold out. We are understanding people and ordered something else and it was good. I would definitely give this place another go on a not so busy day. Even though the bartenders were slammed they both were awesome and had smokes on their faces.

I have not eaten here, nor do I ever intend to!  My husband and I had just decided to try Prime for our anniversary dinner.....and then we read the reviews.  Steve C.’s review opened our eyes to what a greedy and selfish person the owner is.  During the fires, 20 police officers had reservations for dinner.  Due to unforeseen circumstances, the fires, they had to cancel their reservation 24+ hours in advance.  The owner charged the officers credit card $1000 for the cancellation!!!  She wouldn’t back down! At a time when most places would GLADLY feed the officers/firefighters for free, this woman demanded money!!!  SHAME ON HER!!

My wife and I have had 2 dinners at Prime in the past six months celebrating a birthday or anniversary.  Both times the food and service were excellent.  I was very disappointed when the Watermark closed as it was our "go to" restaurant for special occasions. My wife is a professional chef and I am a lifelong "foodie" also with a long history of entertaining and cooking myself.  My criteria for a upper class restaurant is whether I feel I could have made as good a meal as was served.  Prime has met that challenge with creative dishes, well turned out with generous portions and fair pricing.  Definitely our "go to" spot now in Ventura.

Food was tasty, though not all was properly prepared. Pretty pricey,  too.

Pro: Ribeye steak was excellent and the puff-pastry appetizer a pleasant surprise. Staff was helpful, courteous and professional.

Con:  Our party of eight was seated in area so dark we had to use cell phone lights to read the menus. Jumbo prawn appetizer was lukewarm, halibut was overcooked, side veggies undercooked, creme brule was runny. They were out of the first wine we selected from their list,  a favorite of ours.

Verdict: Overall quality of the experience didn't live up to expectations. The best part of the evening was the company of friends.

Great service to start. Bread and butter was really good. Two types of butter. Had bacon covered scallops and they were excellent but a bit expensive. Main meal was prime rib stroganoff with mushrooms. Also excellent. Came with a salad. Very tasty.
