Story

Prison Brews opened its doors on April 7, 2008 on the historic east side of Jefferson City at 305 Ash Street in what is historically known as Landwehr Dairy. The original building is circa 1895.

The 1904-05 City Directory lists L.H. Mueller, Horseshoer; Blacksmithing and Wagon Making; “For First Class Work Give Us A Trial,” at this address.

In 1923, the building was labeled a “Creamery” and by 1940, the building was labeled a “Dairy.”

During the early 1990’s, Sanning Electric owned and operated their business from this location.

Then in 2008 this building became the microbrewery and restaurant it is today!

Being so close to the historic old prison, it seemed fitting for a cool restaurant theme.

There have been many updates over the years but one thing remains, a casual and comfortable atmosphere where our guest or shall we say friends, can come and enjoy good food and hand crafted beers.

My husband and I went to Prison Brews for the first time today with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. We were very very pleased with everything there. The unique decor and atmosphere is very fun and intriguing. Everything was clean and well kept. The waitress Allison was friendly, pleasant and good at her job. The manager, Cliff was friendly and professional, easy to talk with. We ordered a supreme pizza which was very good..well cooked, and tasty. We will definitely be there again and recommend it to friends.

Visited for lunch on a Sunday on my way home from Ozarks. Their menu was full of delicious sounding options! I went for the Club and it was pretty good. I could tell that it was a very well loved spot by the locals. I want to go back in the summer and enjoy the outdoor seating options! Good stuff!

I visit prison Brews regularly when in town as its my favorite local restaurant. the staff is great there always but I wanted it to be noted that the new bartender was excellent. She was friendly, efficient, accurate, and was always busy wiping down behind the bar and doing it with a smile! She is refreshing ! Looking forward to seeing her again!

Fun decor, especially after touring the Missouri State Penn, which I recommend. Decent bar food and beer. Strangely fast, but friendly service. Management was keen to ensure everything was good.

We found hair in our food and also my aunt who is vegan, brought in her own sandwich be ause they had no vegan options and the rest of us wanted to eat. The waiter told the manager and he said she could not eat her own sandwich while the rest of our party ate our food. We will never return and this was not a fun experience like we thought it would be.
