I just had a very positive experience with a very polite and sensitive police officer. I called about a concern in my bldg. They responded right away and were very professional. They dealt with the situation in an efficient and professional manner. I appreciate that.

Officer Threatened Me Without Cause On November 28, 2016, I arrived home to find my apartment was accessed by someone as items were strewn around and I noticed that my laptop was tampered with because the screen read, “Install Operating System” and when I left earlier in the day, it was operating just fine. I called the Providence Police station to report my findings and three a police officers arrived. One was in his late 20’s early 30’s with a buzz cut and blonde hair, another was female with her hair in a ponytail with blonde highlights and the third was older than the others with dark features and hair. The Officer with dark hair threatened me by saying, “You can continue to call the station about issues in your apartment or I can arrest you, have the evidence to match the crime, watch you get prosecuted and hauled off to jail.” I reminded him that I was a victim of a crime and it was his responsibility to make a report because that was his job. Exactly one month later, while in Worcester for a couple of days, I was set up for a crime I didn’t commit and spent 17 hours being interrogated and also undergoing a psych evaluation at the same time. I was asked all about my finances and how I could afford to live without working, I answered all questions without an attorney and at 6:30am I was released and told there was no way I could have been involved and that all my statements were verified and accurate. This officer is friends with a known drug dealer, which I believe is wrong and they were trying to set me up but failed and in April I met with Internal Affairs to file a complaint and I was told that they knew who the officer was and would question him based on the report on file. I recently went to obtain copies of the report and it has vanished from police records and I ask how this is possible? I have been tormented and harassed by him for over a year and want it to stop. (See RI Hospital Review) I went back to the Providence Police Department to obtain the original police report that was filed for the November 28, 2016 incident in my apartment and this police report that was in the system and verified by Internal Affairs in April, this specific report has been deleted and no longer exists. I call on Steven M. Pare, Commissioner of Public Safety to find this report forensically in the metadata in this Police Department.

The Providence P.D. has to be the most feared gang in RI. They have no morality when it comes to serving and protecting their citizens, search and harass is probaly their daily reminder when they clock in. 90% of the time when I get pulled over for no reason at all and I ask why, i get the same rehearsed response "you fit the description" or the officer in question gets mad that you would even ask them why they are stopping you. I respect law enforcement but Providence power tripping cops are the worse. Then they wonder why no one within the city wants to apply to be a cop, as the generations go on their force will thin out.

I wish everyone had to serve in a public safety capacity for one year, like the old military draft. I wonder how the perspective on police action would be affected. People call the police when there is a problem, when there is anger, fear, frustration, maybe horror, maybe all of those. They don't consider whether the station has a mob scene somewhere with officers at risk, they don't consider whether the responding officer has just been chasing someone and wondering if s/he is going to be shot at, they don't consider or know the laws that impede the actions wanted; more could be written but the point is hopefully made. As for forced service - perhaps the experience would allow us all to appreciate what it takes to maintain safety and uphold laws for all of us. If there is a concentration of crime somewhere, that is where officers will be on heightened alert for misbehaviors. That's common sense, not profiling. Our society creates self-replicating patterns of success and failure - we each need to work to change THAT. Once the failure results in lawlessness, we need to allow necessary action. When a police officer commits a crime, s/he needs to be charged, but when s/he reacts with the human response we all would to a charged, threatening, volatile situation, we all need to step back and consider what leads up to such a reaction. Black Lives Matter, and the problems highlighted on media must be addressed. Police Lives Matter too. All Lives Matter. Only by working together, not against one another do we have a chance of improving. I thank the men and women who are working to keep safety and peace - on and off the police force, but especially the members of the PPD, because their uniform makes them more of a target profile than any civilian.

I see some very low ratings. That explains the lack of help searching for my nephew who's gone missing and left a suicide note. Pathetic excuse for public servants.
