Visit the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum at the historic Santa Fe Depot.

Story

Completed in 1911, the historic Santa Fe Depot houses the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum. The exhibits explore the history of the railroad and topics relating to regional and local history. The museum also hosts temporary exhibits, education programs, and special events.

The museum’s collection of railroad equipment is displayed on the grounds, next to an active railroad yard where rail-fans can observe daily operations and traffic of the BNSF and Amtrak. The beautiful Santa Fe Gardens, Whistlestop Playground, and Temple Visitor Center are also nearby.

There is plenty of parking on-site. Group tours can be booked with advance notice by calling (254) 298-5172.Visitors can purchase admission to the museum in the Museum Gift Shop, along with souvenirs and all sorts of train goodies for all ages. Come visit us today!

Very disappointed. Because I had a camera bag and tripod, I was questioned about being a professional photographer. I tried to explain that I was NOT a pro photographer that I was meeting a friend and we were going to take photos of the outside of the trains in the yard. I was told that I needed to call and make appointment and was given several pages of contracts with prices per hour to photograph the museum. My friend also an AMATEUR did take some photos of the rust on the box car. I took no photographs and will advise other photographers in our group of amateurs to avoid this location.

Great for the whole family to learn about history

Wish we could have got into the trains parked outback to see the insides but was still cool checking them out. Be sure to look at the steam locomotive.

A small museum that could use a little renovation, but all in all worth the trip if you are in town. Tells the story of the local railroads and how the town came to be. For $4 you can't go wrong. Free if you are active military.
