About

Opened in 1974, we're one of Alameda's longest running businesses!

Story

We carry a vast assortment of vinyl records, cassette tapes, CDs and rock 'n' roll memorabilia as well as Books, VHS, DVDs and thousands of posters.

More recently in 2008 we introduced retro inspired and vintage clothing & accessories to Alameda by enhancing our inventory with t-shirt, vintage shirts (leisure, polo, cabana, Hawaiian) Levi's Jeans, Dr. Martens, Converse sneakers and much more.

We're conveniently located in the heart of Alameda's west side commercial district (Webster Street), two blocks northwest of Washington Park and just a few blocks from the Oakland-Alameda tube.

This place is never open. I've tried to come at least six times and every time it is closed with the lights off. I even during the business hours listed here on Google, they are closed. Guess I'll find my records elsewhere

Been collecting vinyl since I was ten, and I have to say that mono has a great selection without the hipster price tag. Cool owner cool location. Come here if you want to find great records without having to dig for endless hours.

This place is absolutely disgusting It claims to be a record store, but what you don't realize until you walk in is that it's actually also part creepy porn store, featuring what I assume is the owner's collection of album art covering an entire wall, which exclusively features women in sexualized poses. From the moment you walk in you can tell the owner smokes heavily, but you won't notice the Playboys and dirty looking lingerie until you wander to the back of the store. Unless you are specifically looking to feel like a scumbag by the time you walk out: skip this nasty excuse for a 'music store'.

I just stumbled upon this page for "The Record Gallery". Actually, I'm looking more for information, because the review I would give it, was the last time I visited. That would have been 1984. It was during my 1st marriage. I remember it was owned by 2 guys. One of them was named "Fudd". I spent close to $1K in Vinyl LP's, when I started shopping there in 1982-84. Back then it was a dark Dingy place, but had ALL the cool vinyl. I remember seeing Brad Gillis there (The Band Night Ranger). I'm wondering if "Fudd" sold the place and when that was. A lot of good memories there. Highly Recomended!

I'll admit, when I walked into the Record Gallery a year ago I was a little disappointed by the lack of atmosphere and the dingy-ness of it all, but things sure have changed! It must be under new management because the place just isn't the same - now it's great! The new paint on the walls and arrangement of fixtures makes it so refreshing to walk into! It may actually be cleaner than Amoeba! Not to mention, I picked up an awesome new bowling shirt from their clothes racks (which reminds me of aardvarks) - it's a new twist that they've added to increase the foot traffic! I hope it works because this place is awesome! Afterall, it's been there for 35 years, it's pretty much been blue-printed to Alameda!
