RISD, where art and design meet
Rhode Island School of Design (better known as RISD) is a small college in a small state, but it’s one with a huge international reputation. Founded in 1877, RISD (pronounced “RIZ-dee”) attracts the top art and design students from around the country and the world. Each year approximately 2,400 undergraduate and graduate students share their creative energy as they pursue full-time degree programs in 19 studio majors in the fine arts, architecture and design. The mission of Rhode Island School of Design, through its college and museum, is to educate its students and the public in the creation and appreciation of works of art and design, to discover and transmit knowledge and to make lasting contributions to a global society through critical thinking, scholarship and innovation.
