Story

Located at 1010 Main Street in the historic downtown district of Lexington, Missouri, River Reader resides in a renovated Queen Anne building, constructed circa 1886.
Serving the community since 2004, River Reader is many things to a small community: A social gathering place, home to several book clubs, a source for espresso drinks and freshly baked treats, a place to browse for books and toys, and a place for personal help and advice for all things involving reading.
As an independent bookstore, we choose our own titles, decide what books to display, set our own hours of business, and coordinate our own events. We are involved with local schools and literacy causes, food pantries, and our troops overseas. It is challenging to be independent in a world of e-readers and big box stores, but the reward of doing our part locally is rewarding.
We consider our shop a destination for anyone wanting to experience our passion for books in a historic building located in a small yet charming town. Please consider a visit!
