Rosati's Pizza and Sports Pub

About

Chicago based, family owned pizza franchise established in 1964 serving authentic Chicago pizzas, pastas, salads, sandwiches & desserts. Dine-in available!

Story

In 1895, an Italian immigrant from the region of Naples, Italy, Ferdinand Rosati opened a fine-dining Italian restaurant on Coney Island. In 1906, he moved to Chicago and started yet another Italian restaurant on Chicago’s famous Taylor Street. Since the restaurant gained immense success, expansion was the next direction. A hotel, saloon, and a small importing and exporting business of Italian foods were added to the restaurant. Back then, pizza was strictly old-world Italian fare, simply a tomato sauce served on crisp bread that Ferdinand often put on the table as a special offering to his customers and boy did the people love it!

By 1927, Ferdinand’s son, Saverio Rosati opened another restaurant on Pulaski and Madison in Chicago, right next to the Marbro Theater. Soon after, the restaurant became a favorite watering hole for the old Chicago society and Windy City politicians. On any given night you might spot Jack Haley, famous for his role as the “Tin Man” in The Wizard of Oz enjoying a hearty helping of Saverio’s homemade Italian specialties or contrary to popular belief, notorious gangster, Al Capone and his entourage could be spotted sharing a heaping dish of pasta with his so called “nemesis”, Eliot Ness.

When Saverio (Sam) retired, his sons moved to the suburbs with a new and timely concept. The year was 1964 and pizza was now a popular trend. Saverio’s sons Dick, Ron and Al Rosati opened the first Rosati’s Pizza in an Illinois suburb, Mount Prospect. By 1978, a total of ten Rosati family members owned carryout pizzerias.

Now with the Rosati name firmly established in the Chicago suburbs, the family took another giant leap and started franchising their Rosati’s Pizza restaurants.

Today, we are honored to say the Rosati’s brand is approaching 200 restaurants nationally. Including the newest concept, the Rosati’s Pizza Pub. Great-grandpa would be so proud!

We were visiting from Utah and, after searching the area for Chicago Deep-dish Pizza, the restaurant/food review app I typically use (the one whose name starts with a Y) directed us here. I haven't had this type of pizza very many times, but wow, I can't imagine it being any better than this. I am not normally a fan of tomato chunks, but the way they did them as a default on the deep-dish was great, especially since they were also lightly seasoned. Surprisingly, my wife (who normally adores tomatoes) said later that she would ask for less tomatoes because it made it rather wet and I agreed with her. I realize that with Chicago-style food, wet is often the goal. We got sausage & mushroom on our pizza, but after tasting the meatball that came with my daughter's spaghetti dinner, we would totally get meatballs on the pizza in the future. On the subject of wet food items, I noticed they also have Italian beef sandwiches, so we will definitely need to return sometime to try those. As part of the free check-in promo in the "Y-name" food app I used to find this place, we got an order of dough nuggets as an appetizer and they were unique and delicious. It is a smart promo to give away of one of your yummiest items to get people in the door. Although I am not fond of the sports bar setup, this one was done fairly well and the TVs weren't too loud. Overall, it was a fun & delicious experience.

Being from Chicago, this was quite the find for me!! After 2 yrs I was really excited to get a real Chgo pizza & they did not disappoint! I was in heaven! Service was great, beer was cold, & a great sports bar for us Chicagoans missing home. A bit pricey, but worth it!

This was my first Chicago style pizza, having no point of reference. It is my favorite. I am assured that, when one visits Chicago, this pizza doesn't compare.Regardless, I live in San Diego and it is the best I've had yet. Get dbl chz. You're welcome.

Always a pleasure to visit Rosati's. The staff are almost always kind, considerate, and smiling! The food is just right. The ambience is a bit noisy at times, but it is a sports bar environment, so I guess…

Got a pep and saus deep dish. Imo, too little pizza for too big of a price. Wasn't anything amazing. Should have been about half of what it cost ($23 for a 10 inch).
