I decided to try St. Mark's because they held a 5:00 PM service. It was Easter Sunday and the cherry blossoms in the court yard were quite wonderful. At 5:00 o'clock the neighborhood was quiet. I walked into a scattering of about a dozen souls huddled in a rear corner of the church, where the priest had set up a candle on a chair as he stood and conducted service. Immediately, I felt I'd made the right choice. In today's climate of wearing religion on your sleeve, I liked the idea of almost slipping into a nearly empty church and finding just a few others, who like me, only wanted a moment of Peace. When Ft. Abernathy gave his "homily," he explained the term, something which I'd never known and began speaking from the heart. He touched my heart and mind and rekindled a sense that perhaps a chuch could be a regualr place for me, perhaps it's this church. So, I plan to go back for my second time at 5:00 PM today. And I doubt that I will be disappointed.
