The Salem Police Department is a department of the City of Salem (www.cityofsalem.net), and provides public safety services to Oregon's capital city which comprises, in part, two counties as its 46.4 square miles encompass Marion county on the east side of the Willamette River and west into Polk county.

Reception staff great. Police write tickets and lie about evidence even taking photos from Angles which make things look worse (force perspective). Try and talk about it and they get very aggressive. $600 for a tow (corruption?) seems everyone thinks it. I actually thought the aggressive cop would be waiting for us in the parking lot. Undermined all faith in the police. At best just have a God complex at worst bullies with guns.

Honestly, they just aren't very nice people... My friend was going 60 down road that was 45 and a cop said she was going 90 then gave her an $800 ticket. And like I said before the police just have a rude personality and it seems like they do whatever they what without even thinking first.

To be fair, I have had the Salem Police help my family out when we needed them a couple of times. To be fair. Now, over the last twenty years? CRAPTASTIC. Not showing up when I had a homeless man in the house with my wife and newborn. Not showing up for four hours when we had shoplifters at our store. Not showing up for several hours when we apprehended hit and run offenders. Not showing up for days when we had abandoned dogs next door that eventually died due to fighting and dehydration. Not pressing charges when I couldn't accurately identifying the punk kid driving recklessly. It was as good a a description as it gets folks. I don't know what is going on in this town. I know it's not the police officer's fault. It's the judges I suspect. I've seen this before in another capital city. If you complain too much they'll hit you up for another tax hike that'll somehow get diverted to PERS? Just a theory. Here come the tickets.

I have always been a huge supporter of local law enforcement. However, I can no longer say that about Salem PD. As a local business person who houses 75+ senior citizens, I had to report a burglary. First, the dispatcher wanted to call it malicious mischief. When someone actually breaks into your business, cuts locks off and steals employees personal items, it is BURGLARY! Secondly, I personally followed the leads and personally found the vehicle that carried the suspects. Salem PD did nothing. In fact, supposed Det. Sgt. Smith sat on his ($%#@) went out of town for some training and did not assign it to any other detective. In turn, all of the video surveillance that could have been obtained, which I verified there was, was deleted because Salem PD did not request it. It has been approx. 6 months and I have not heard one word of follow up out of Salem PD. Salem PD and the DA's office, clearly do not care anything about Salem's elderly population and their safety. Until I see Salem PD actually do some real police work, their just junior boy scouts!
