The Sandy Spring Museum would not be here, were it not for the inspiration of a local auctioneer who came to the realization that the area was loosing its history (and memory?) as he over saw the sale of the contents of the old farmhouses to folks who were taking it all away..... If the exhibits seem smaller than in the past (no more antique cars, see review below), it is only because there are "bills to pay" and inviting folks in to "do stuff" helps to make the museum "relevant" to the new neighbors. As has been noted in the past, Sandy Spring is more of an attitude than a mere area. Come in and remember from whence we came, so as to better appreciate where we might be going.

Sandy Spring Museum has wonderful local history about the Quaker involvement in helping enslaved people. We attended an event with Cheryl LaRoche who curated an exhibit at the National Museum of African American History & Culture. She did a book signing of her book Free Black Communities. She encouraged the Sandy Spring Museum Supporters to do the work to turn this museum into a National Park because of its rich history.
