The worst experience of my life! I would drive to Los Angeles in the immense pain I was in to avoid ever returning to this hospital The ER was extremely slow, with only 3 other patients in the waiting room. When I asked the woman registering me if I could get in soon, she laughed and said get in line! I had a Crohn's flare up with pain that was excruciating, and had to endure this for 1 ½ hours until I could get pain medication, and then it wasn't enough and kept wearing off. It would take 45 minutes to get someone to administer more medication. The doctor was incompetent , and knew absolutely zero about Crohn's. On top of it, he kept complaining how tired he was. I went over my past experience with these flare ups, and explained what needed to be done, without any acknowledgment or response from this "doctor". I would avoid this "hospital" at all costs. Go to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, as it's well worth the trip!

Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara is amazing. I was here for a couple of days after an accident and I can't tell you how wonderful it was. We have joked ever since that if we ever have to be in the hospital we shouldn't drive Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. The room was very large with a huge television and a couch that turned into a bed for family. The food was like dining in a restaurant. Choices that you can't even imagine being on a hospital menu, steak, quinoa salad, cheesecake. The staff is so attentive and amazing as well. I couldn't believe how quickly they got me in and looked at and admitted once they needed to keep me overnight. This hospital has so many windows and natural light it does not even feel like you're in a hospital. It is absolutely wonderful. The way they also handled my care was amazing. Before I was released multiple departments checked me out make sure we completely understood everything and they delivered all of my records in a nice folder that kept everything in one place including a CD for any x-rays and tests I had. When I later needed some more information it was a simple phone call and I had it in 10 minutes via email.

My husband had a trip to the ER while traveling, and this hospital was the closest. For an EKG and a few hours in the ER prior to being completely d/c, AFTER insurance (which pays this type of thing almost entirely) we owe almost 2K. Hospitals like this are what is wrong with our health care system and should be avoided. For the record, we've experienced exact situations out of town and out of state and never any charge so ridiculous.

The emergency room peeps misled me to a large extent about when I would be able to speak to someone about the type of insurance I had until I was footed with a bill I wasn't ready for, even though I had been asking for insurance clarification since the moment I stepped in the ER. Literally every single one of the 3 or 4 hospital staff I spoke with I asked about insurance clarification. I feel like this infringes on my right to understand the services and their costs before being coerced into accepting the services. If I were a wealthier person I would sue over this.

Today i took my mom to the Santa Barbara emergency room. She had been in alot of pain the night before to the point she could not make it to work in the morning. She has syst in her knees that make it hard for her to walk or stand. The dr. on dudty Dr.Yao spent less then 5 mins with her ...he was very rude and short with her and turned her away as well as telling her she needed to see her regular dr and he could do anything! Not even check it out, give her anything for her pain or at least run a MRI. I was shocked to see her come out so fast in tears as her only and last resort turned her away. We as a local family of Santa Barbara know now that the Santa Barbara emergency room Dr are of no help when we are in need. We will defiantly go to The new Goleta Cottage Emergency room instead for the simple fact that they are way more compassionate and understanding.
