There isn’t much to say that others haven’t shared already. They really need to consider ways to improve the process and experience. Waiting for hours should not be acceptable. The DMV could save themselves so much money to invest in systems that would speed up the processing of items. This is the first DMV I’ve been to (out of 3 states) where the gentleman at the counter literally wrote my number down on a sheet of paper. I don’t get a ticket or anything and the number has no meaning at all. You will not know where you are in line. Not sure if all CA DMVs will be the same, but I would honestly try a different location that is better equipped to handle lots of people without wasting a whole day to spend way too much money to drive a car here.

It's a DMV what do you expect? For a DMV this one isn't the worst. The bathrooms were decent unlike a lot of them. I don't know why people complain about the obvious troubles you will experience when you need to go to a DMV. You should know what you're getting into when you go. There's processes and lines ok? Get over it.

I know others have stated the same thing, but I figure with more 1* reviews the DMV may take notice.

I got my DL renewal form; to get a DL that will be valid as ID when flying in the US after 2020. You need to go in with paperwork for this. I looked for an appointment but there weren't any before my expiration, so I decided to go the non-appointment route instead of driving on an expired license. I drove by early in the morning, around opening, and saw a huge line outside, so I went and did some work. I checked the DMV website a while later and saw wait time was ~1hour, so I figured, "hey it's cleared out, great." and went over. It took more than 2 hours to just get the number they call, and then over 3.5 hours form that point to be called to a window to give documentation, then 2 more lines to get picture taken and temporary license (not sure why that needed to be done in 2 separate lines, and the women from both lines got distracted with other stuff so both took way longer than what would seem reasonable).  

All-in-all, like others have said, the website said ~1 hour and it took far closer to 6!!!

I went to the Santa Clara DMV 18 years ago without any appointment and it was not a big deal. How the times have changed! After today’s horrible experience,  I won’t suggest anyone to go to this DMV without any appointment. I have tried to get a service in two days in a row at two different times and it’s total disappointment. 
On both days,  at the beginning their computer was working fine, but a few hours later, the computer systems went down and everything was messed up. They won’t give you any clear picture how they decide the order of serving.They won’t give you a ticket either. The person who was calling applicants by name,was not loud enough, so there was a chance of not hearing from back side of the room. The place was overcrowded without enough sitting arrangements. Many elderly and disabled persons were forced to stand hour after hour. Everyone is so annoyed and frustrated. I was Waiting for 4 hours, then gave up because they can’t even estimate the waiting period. On top of it all, they don’t even have the courtesy to update their official website about this mess. When I checked, it said a 0 hr wait time-I went to find a long line outside the door.

Honestly, the DMV was frustrating but I knew this going in. I moved from out of state with a newly purchased car so I had to get the registration done and couldn’t wait for an appointment. 3 different people then looked at my documentation and let me proceed through the various lines. When I finally spoke to the woman who filed my paperwork she said she couldn’t do it and that I needed a letter from the dealership because the titles not in the same state I bought the car in. I understand procedure and rules but not one of the three employees that checked the title told me it would be an issue. So I will be going back but not looking forward to spending another 5+ hours here again. (Bring water and food if you don’t have an appointment. I got extremely dehydrated by the end)
