This happened maybe in May 2013, but I will never forget how humiliated the crew had me feeling. I was dying of a severe oral infection, and completely out to lunch, but focused only on one thing, a mental illness, one of them said to me in the most patronizing tone of voice (which is why I felt humiliated), "Did......you......take......your......HAAAPPPPYYY pill TODAY?" Like I was both mentally retarded and mentally ill. Mental illness does not mean mentally retarded-speaking to someone like this deprives them of any dignity, there is no respect for the patient, and if you want to be respected as a provider (EMT or any other kind), being respectful to a patient, and not speaking to them in a tone that humiliates or degrades is a good place to start. It does not matter what anyone thinks of me because I have a mental illness-all mental illness means, is that you are a human being. Humiliating someone for that, is never acceptable. Do I take meds? Nope, not anymore. Not with the attitude that people in general have, or the ones that providers are contributing to. I use weed or the natural stuff. And I work a program, cut toxic out of my life. This kind of treatment? I didn't need it. No one does. No one ever deserves to be treated like this. I think it was how humiliated I felt is why I remember this so clearly. I was in kindergarten the last time I was spoke to this way.

I live a block from the fire station, when the fire alarm goes off at my apartment building, they respond super quick. I got stuck in the elevator once - they responded immediately and helped me get out.
