Shake Shack

Story

Shake Shack is an American fast casual restaurant chain based in New York City. It started out as a food cart inside Madison Square Park in 2004, and its popularity steadily grew. It eventually moved to a stand within the park, expanding its menu from New York-style hotdogs to one with hamburgers, hotdogs, fries and its namesake milkshakes. The company claims to use all-natural 100% Angus beef only and says that its meat has no hormones nor antibiotics.

Since its founding it has been one of the fastest-growing food chains eventually becoming a public company filing for an initial public offering of stock in late 2014. The offering priced on January 29, 2015; the initial price of its shares was at $21 immediately rising by 123% to $47 on their first day of trading.

History

In 2000, New York City began the rebuilding of Madison Square Park, which had fallen into a state of disrepair and misuse. As part of the redevelopment, restaurateur Danny Meyer helped spearhead the creation of the Madison Square Park Conservancy to help redevelop it. One of the first things the Conservancy did in its goal to improve the park was to host an art exhibit called "I <3 Taxi" inside of the park to raise awareness of the renewal effort. Meyer's Director of operations, Randy Garutti, established a hot dog cart which was run out of the kitchen of Eleven Madison, one of Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) operations. Over time the cart became extremely successful, and remained in operation for nearly three years.

In 2004, the city began taking bids to operate a new kiosk-style restaurant within the park; Meyer outlined his idea for the space, and opened the first Shake Shack in July 2004. From its beginning the restaurant was not designed to be a chain, intended to be a single shop location designed specifically for New York City. However, as the original location's sales continued to grow, the group realized that there was a market for expansion.

Leaving a review specifically for the Shake Shack near the Flatiron building in NYC! The employee we had, whose name was Armani, was an absolute joy. This girl had a smile on her face for every single customer and she absolutely made my day. You should call yourself lucky if she happens to be working when you order there!

My first visit to NYC and I knew I had to visit this location after seeing it in one of my fave movies, Something Borrowed. I was not disappointed in the slightest. The service was over the top friendly and the delicious burgers are unbeatable. I’m here for a couple more days and I feel like I will be visiting this place again.

I always saw a crazy line during lunch time when I used to when across the street. So I would usually go before lunch rush or on those rainy days when there's not much of a crowd. You don't want to be caught in the line so go before lunch. I had to wait with my friend visiting from out-of-town for 1.5 hours. I would not wait that long for this burger but she wouldn't budge. Overall they have solid burgers. You can taste the grill flavor and they are nicely seasoned. Be sure to try the shakes and the custards which change daily. They now have a new burger: the Chick'n Shake! It is a must try. The chicken is battered and fried perfectly golden and crispy. The chicken was so tender and still so hot and crispy. The batter is not too thick which is a big plus and it has great flavor. The only thing I don't like are the pickles but that's a personal preference. I think the chicken burger can give the beef burger a run of its money!

Love the frozen custards. Wasn't as impressed by the burger when I first tried it in an NJ mall. But loved it when I came back to the Shack here are Madison Square. And u can never beat this original Shack for location! Looking forward to more happy times here in 2018!
