Located in the very first home built in Arcadia, the Shemer Art Center showcases Arizona artists & offers visual art classes, workshops, exhibits & events
Truly a "home for the arts" the Shemer Art Center is located in the very first home built in Arcadia at the base of Camelback Mountain.
Its unique charm and atmosphere provide the perfect setting for visitors to experience visual art classes, workshops, lectures, exhibitions and events. A boutique gift shop and outdoor sculpture garden also assist in showcasing emerging and established Arizona artists.
The Shemer Art Center was established in 1984 when Martha Shemer purchased the home (originally built in 1919) and donated it to the City of Phoenix. In 1985 a non-profit organization called SACAMA (Shemer Art Center and Museum Association) was formed to provide support and input into the operation of the art center. In 2010, the Shemer Art Center faced the threat of closing when the City of Phoenix announced it could no longer manage the day-to-day operations. But SACAMA took on the challenge of maintaining the Shemer and growing it into a viable art center. Today it continues to serve its mission as a welcoming and historic art center for the entire state of Arizona.
As a non-profit organization entirely funded by the community, the Shemer Art Center (its board and staff) invites your participation! Consider taking a class, becoming a member, browsing the gift shop and attending one of our upcoming events! Your help will allow us to fulfill Martha's dream!.
