I am very glad I found Simple Gifts! Anita is wonderful and patient teacher. She sets high standards for each lesson but will always give enough encouragement and instruction that I know I can hope to succeed. My accomplishments on the horse, big or small, are always praised and recognized! She has a profound understanding of how a horse and rider work together, I have learned so much in my two years riding here. I would recommend lessons at Simple Gifts to any rider that wishes to be challenged or is motivated to just be a better well rounded rider and person. Thank you Anita!!

I have been riding for 27 years and have had many, many instructors over that time. In the year I have been working with Anita, I have learned more about the nuances of communication between horse and rider than from any instructor I've ever had. Anita sees each step your horse takes as an opportunity for improved communication, understanding, and learning. She has the highest expectations of her students and their horses. She can quickly and accurately assess the strengths and weaknesses of horse and rider and set you up to work together in a constructive manner. The word "holistic" comes to mind when thinking about Anita's approach to horsemanship. Every tiny part of horse and rider contributes to the whole. She uses no quick fix or unnatural trick or tool (I have learned so many over the years!). It's just what you and your horse can do with direct and consistent communication. Anita has many "catchphrases", but one of my favorites is, "If you don't ask your horse the question, you're not going to get the answer." I think that sums up her approach perfectly!

Simple Gifts Farm Equestrian School, run by Anita Imms, is one that I would highly recommend to anyone who really wants to learn to ride and understand horses. Anita is very patient, knowledgeable, and passionate about riding and her horses and has so much to offer. I am an adult, beginner rider and I am learning that there is so much more than just getting on a horse and riding. Anita takes the time to work with you as an individual to make sure you have a positive learning experience. She explains things so that you understand each concept and the role of the rider and the horse as they work together. I have learned so much in such a short time and I look so forward to each and every lesson. In addition, I am learning how to care for the horse before and after riding which is just as important as the riding lesson itself. Taking lessons with Anita is wonderful because I am getting more than just a lesson, I am learning about the relationship and the trust that is established between rider and horse. It is truly what makes riding so special. Her farm and barn are both beautiful, as well as clean and organized, and the horses are very well cared for. I am thrilled to be one of Anita's students and I look forward to learning much more and becoming a good rider.

If I could give zero stars I would. I wanted to learn to ride a horse so we located this farm. My first lesson was fine everyone seemed nice. After that things went bad...fast. If I didn't understand something, Anita would yell at me. If I didn't learn at the pace she wanted me to, she would yell at me. If I asked a question, she would yell at me. If I didn't ask a question, she would yell at me. If I talked she would look at me like I was an idiot. If I didn't talk, she would yell at me. And that's not even the worst. She would say things to me such as "I have a nine year old student who was able to do a posting trot on the correct diagonal on the third lesson and you can't even walk", "You can't steer how do you drive", "My granddaughter can crawl faster than this". Needless to say I was quite discouraged. Still that's not the worst thing to happen. The worst thing was when she hit me with a riding crop twice. This was the worst riding experience I ever had in my life. Currently I go elsewhere and am having a way better learning experience. Why I stayed here for a year I will never know.

Anita Imms is a kind, caring and knowledgeable riding instructor. She takes the time to explain things in detail so the rider truly gets an understanding of the process. I have learned a great deal in the short time I've taken lessons with her and I plan to continue these lessons as she is by far the best instructor I've had. Simple Gifts Farm is a beautiful place, the staff is friendly, the horses are well cared for and the two barns are clean and tidy. The new boarder barn is beautiful! If I had a horse I would definitely board with Anita.
