I was escorted out by the guard and still have no idea what happened and neither did the guard. A young clerk went bezerk..irrational. It was the most frightening experience. I will drive to Santa Rosa to get my questions answered. The supervisor was to call but did not. I reported experience to Gov Brown's office.

The SSA office @ 1001 Lootens Place, San Rafael MOVED to a new location on April 21st. The San Rafael office of the Social Security Administration is now located at: 99 Smith Ranch Road, 2nd Floor, San Rafael, CA. It is in the same location as the AAA building. When I called 2 weeks ago to make an appointment to see a representative at the SSA, the earliest appointment was for June 13th (almost a 2 month wait). I decided to go in without an appointment and just wait. I arrived at the SSA office at 9:08am and was pleasantly surprised to be called after only waiting for about 10 minutes. SSA Representative, Patrick, was courteous, efficient and knowledable. After he determined what benefits I wanted to have processed, he guided me to a computer and proceeded to have me complete an on-line application. SSA Representative, Sai Phan, took over and was there to help me with any questions I might have in regards to completing the on-line forms. Overall, the whole process took less than one hour. Expecting to have to wait hours and hours, perhaps ALL day, I brought lots of reading material, but never even got through one article. It was a pleasant surprise to get out so quickly. I found the staff to be helpful and accommodating. The new location is not so handy if you must travel by public transportation, but if you drive, parking is adequate and free. It was a good experience.

I tried filing for Medicare Part B, filing 2 simple forms. Due to a series of mistakes by the SS agent, I ended up spending over 8 hours during 3 trips. The offices are almost scary, the stairway looking more like a place you would go to buy crack or get mugged. The waiting room is full of people waiting for hours to see the 1 or 2 working agents. I waited for a hour on each of two early morning visits, just to be told when I got to the window, that this was just to 'check in' and that I had to go back and wait to be seen, which was another 2 hours. The monitor showing which numbers they were seeing was not working at all on one day, and they skip around out of sequence, so there is no way to see how long you will be "Waiting for Godot". Surreal hellscape of a distopian nightmare. The security agent (armed) was 1/3rd of the staff, and I can see why they need muscle to protect those incompetent bureaucrats.

Call Social Security if you'd like to spend 40 minutes on hold, then when someone answers, be told "Please hold on, our system is down", then be on hold for another ten minutes and then get disconnected. If you enjoy that experience, don't hang up because you will be connected to a SURVEY in which you can waste another five minutes answering stupid, irrelevant questions.
