A Historic Holy Place
The Sorrowful Mother Shrine is the oldest place of pilgrimage dedicated to the Blessed Mother in the Midwest and east of the Mississippi River in the United States. Established in 1850 by Fr. Francis de Sales Brunner, a missionary of the Most Precious Blood, and having a great devotion to Mary, built on this site a small red brick chapel in honor of the Sorrowful Mother. The Shrine quickly became a place where people could come and "stand still and feel the presence of God." Pilgrims came, and continue today, seeking physical healing and spiritual guidance, help and comfort, through her intercession. You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen
